Description
The Alberta Children's Hospital (ACH) is a warm & vibrant workplace, serving children & their families in inpatient units & ambulatory clinics. We have an exciting opportunity to join our Allied Health team as a Speech-Language Pathologist (SLP) as part of the site-wide SLP team, with a focus on patient & family-centred care. This SLP II position will deliver assessment & intervention in the areas of communication, & feeding within goal-oriented, time-limited episodes of care for infants and children with complex needs related to traumatic, acquired, congenital, medical or neurological conditions, set within a patient and family centred care model. The caseload for all positions within the Allied Health department may be subject to change based on operational considerations. As the successful candidate, you will be responsible for interprofessional collaboration with medical teams, assessment & intervention within the clinical assignment, work with families & community partners, & way-finding support. You will demonstrate the ability to work collaboratively within an interdisciplinary team; will exhibit advanced clinical reasoning & problem-solving skills; will be organized in managing complex caseload; will demonstrate initiative & adaptability to meet varying clinical & operational needs; & will demonstrate effective interpersonal & verbal/written communication skills. Supervision of graduate students and therapy assistants is required. Participation on program/clinic committees is expected. You will receive guidance, mentoring, & leadership appropriate to your level of experience. Data collection, contribution to national database may be a part of the position. As a Speech Language Pathologist, you will provide clinical professional practice both independently and as a part of a collaborative team, which may include external partners. You will be responsible for providing prevention, health promotion, identification, assessment, intervention, and case management. You will participate in the planning, coordination and delivery of rehabilitation services in collaboration with patients/clients, families, healthcare professionals and other partners. Your leadership and interpersonal skills will aid you in supervising students and providing clinical guidance to other staff as appropriate. You will use your clinical expertise to inform ongoing quality improvement, service integration, and program development.
Master's degree in Speech-Language Pathology. Active or eligible registration and practice permit with the Alberta College of Speech Language Pathologists and Audiologists (ACSLPA).
Minimum one year, within the last two years clinical experience in a pediatric physical medicine/rehabilitation setting. Minimum one year knowledge of tertiary rehabilitation service delivery. Minimum one year knowledge, skills and experience in complex pediatric communication disorders. Minimum 6 months to one year knowledge, skills and experience in pediatric feeding & swallowing. Minimum one year clinical knowledge in the areas of pediatric development, neurological conditions, acquired developmental disorders, neurodegenerative diagnoses, and musculoskeletal conditions. Current BCLS-HCP certification or ability to re-certify within 2-4 weeks of commencing work.
Knowledge and experience with Augmentative & Alternative Communication (AAC). Knowledge and experience in hearing services including but not limited to cochlear implant assessment, treatment and intervention approaches. Knowledge of instrumental swallowing evaluations. Knowledge of community resources and programs. Hanen certification.
