Description
Grande Prairie, found in northwest Alberta, is a growing city with over 60,000 residents and serving approximately 260,000 people in the trading area. Grande Prairie has something for everyone! Outdoor and indoor recreation opportunities are available at the numerous parks and golf courses, in addition to a state of the art recreation facility. The city also has a vibrant arts and culture community with an art gallery, a few museums, and live theater. There are also a multitude of dining and shopping opportunities. Alberta Health Services is invested in Grande Prairie with construction underway for a new regional hospital and cancer center. This position will be supported by our team of Speech-Language Pathologists who serve a community preschool population. Our dynamic team mainly provides service to clients in a clinic setting, with opportunity to serve clients in their own homes as well when needs require. The Speech-Language team also works in close collaboration with our team of Physiotherapists, Occupational Therapists, and Therapy Assistants with children that present with complex needs. There is a very strong focus on the multi-disciplinary and collaborative process including and focused on the client. We have a supportive team and a very strong focus on work life balance. In addition to excellent wages and benefits; AHS currently has a Remote Retention Allowance in place to an annual maximum of $3,000. This allowance is non-pensionable and is payable on an hourly basis for all hours paid at the basic rate of pay.
As a Therapy Assistant, you will work both individually and as part of an interprofessional team under the assignment, monitoring and evaluation of an audiologist, occupational therapist, physiotherapist, recreation therapist or speech-language pathologist. You will contribute to effective and efficient rehabilitation services including direct and indirect client care across the health care continuum (healthy living, getting better, living with illness and disability, end of life care) for all ages as well as non-client service provision. This role will require you to work effectively with internal and external partners, and display professionalism and strong ethics in both client centered care and participation in care teams. You will demonstrate evidence of reflective thinking and lifelong learning that enhances individual and team competency. You will have opportunities to use your interpersonal and clinical skills in contributing to quality improvement, program planning and student supervision.
Completion of diploma from an accredited post-secondary rehabilitation Therapy Assistant program or equivalent training may be considered.
Speech-Language Assistant Diploma is required. Excellent communication skills and collaborative skills required. Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP) required.
Experience with multi-disciplinary teamwork is an asset. Computer skills including MS Office, and experience with electronic charting is a benefit.
