Description
As a Service Worker II with Respiratory Services and Pulmonary Diagnostics, you will play a key role in supporting day-to-day operations within the department. Your responsibilities will include transporting patients (including assisting with AADL walk tests), equipment (such as ventilators and bronchoscopes), and supplies. You will be responsible for cleaning, disinfecting, and restocking respiratory equipment and supplies in accordance with Alberta Health Services standards and practices. This includes preparing procedure-related supplies (e.g., bronchoscopy packages) and ensuring instruments and specialty equipment are ready for safe and timely reuse. The role also involves supporting healthcare staff in procedure areas, monitoring supply levels, and notifying Respiratory Therapy Supervisors of any shortages or equipment concerns. The ideal candidate is a reliable team player who demonstrates strong communication and organizational skills, a high level of motivation, and the ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
As a Service Worker II, you will be responsible for readying supplies, and cleaning/disinfecting instruments and specialty equipment for immediate use/reuse by healthcare staff. You will distribute and replenish patient care supplies, perform quality control tests on equipment and record maintenance data. You may also transport patients (clients/residents), equipment, lab specimens, blood and blood products, and patient charts. You will report any concerns regarding supplies and safety issues to Unit Managers and perform other duties as required. In addition, you will ensure that patient care areas and other assigned areas are accurately stocked and that specialty equipment required by the healthcare staff is available.
Grade 12 or equivalent.
Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP) certification. Must be able to lift 20 kilograms and bend as required. Also, must be able to push and pull loaded carts, respiratory equipment and patients in wheelchairs. Incumbent is exposed to hazardous chemical, bodily fluid, and sharps.
Previous Experience in Respiratory Services department. Previous training and/or experience in transporting patients in a health care institution. Previous experience in surgical processing.
