As a Service Worker I you will be responsible for safe handling and transportation of contaminated equipment from various clinics, nursing units and operating rooms (OR) throughout the University of Alberta Hospital Campus to the Medical Device Reprocessing Area (MDRA) following all related standard operating procedures. In addition, you will then be required to safely distribute clean and sterile supplies back to the areas. The incumbent is responsible for the day-to-day stocking and return of all MDRA supplies that are received from the warehouse and returned from the OR. You will be required to work with other Service Workers to perform pre-assigned departmental duties such as unloading the Cart Washers and Washer Disinfectors, Top Up and other duties as assigned by the Working Lead or Supervisors.

As a Service Worker I, you will be responsible for transporting patients (clients/residents) and equipment to and from different patient care areas within a hospital site. You will distribute and replenish hospital supplies throughout the units and clean equipment and patient care areas as directed. You may also transport lab specimens, blood and blood products, and patient charts. You will report any concerns regarding supplies and safety issues to Unit Managers and perform other duties as required.

Grade 12 or equivalent.

Knowledge of Infection Prevention Control practices would be an asset to this role as well as the proper knowledge of the approved donning and doffing practices of personal protective equipment. Employees will need to lift 1 to 10kg frequently and up to 12kg infrequently. Required to stand and or walk continuously throughout shift. High stress environment requiring the ability to prioritize workload on a continuous basis.

Understanding the general functions of the Medical Device Reprocessing Area (MDRA) would be a benefit to the candidate. There is handling of surgical instruments contaminated with blood, body fluids and fecal matter. Exposure to isolation patient rooms.
