We have an exciting opportunity for a Service Worker I (SWI) position within the Alberta Kidney Care - North (AKC-N) program. A Regularized Relief Service Worker I supports the staffing needs of AKC-N for vacant shifts due to planned or unplanned staff absences. You will support the relief staffing needs at 6 sites. Flexibility to meet the ever-changing relief needs of the program is essential in this position. The Service Worker I assists nursing staff in maintaining a hygienic, well-equipped and safe patient care environment. Responsibilities include but are not limited to preparing and cleaning hemodialysis equipment for patient use, restocking all bedside supplies, transporting patients, blood specimens, charts and supplies, as well as performing other duties as assigned.

As a Service Worker I, you will be responsible for transporting patients (clients/residents) and equipment to and from different patient care areas within a hospital site. You will distribute and replenish hospital supplies throughout the units and clean equipment and patient care areas as directed. You may also transport lab specimens, blood and blood products, and patient charts. You will report any concerns regarding supplies and safety issues to Unit Managers and perform other duties as required.

Grade 12 or equivalent.

Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Healthcare Provider (BCLS-HCP) is required. Must be able to lift to a maximum of 40 pounds several times per shift. A high degree of motivation and good organizational skills are required. Demonstrated good communication skills, able to read, write and speak English fluently. Previous dialysis Service Worker training or recent Service Worker experience in a hospital setting is desirable. Familiarity with hemodialysis equipment and supplies is an asset. Upon successful completion of the one-week orientation with a Clinical Nurse Educator, the service worker will be able to proceed to unit to start one week of buddy shifts as assigned by the hiring manager.
