Alberta Health Services (AHS) is looking for a dependable, highly organized individual for the position of Service Worker I. This regular part-time position is located at the Leduc Community Hospital. Reporting to the Manager of Environmental Services and directed by the Supervisors, the Service Worker I position is responsible for the cleaning & disinfection of equipment, wheelchairs and patient care areas, re-stocking of supplies, transporting of patients, specimens and supplies and equipment, in compliance with AHS and department policies, procedures and standards; as well as assisting Nursing staff as required. Physical requirements of this position include repetitive bending, kneeling, walking and standing for extended periods of time, lifting, pushing or pulling heavy and bulky items.

As a Service Worker I, you will be responsible for transporting patients (clients/residents) and equipment to and from different patient care areas within a hospital site. You will distribute and replenish hospital supplies throughout the units and clean equipment and patient care areas as directed. You may also transport lab specimens, blood and blood products, and patient charts. You will report any concerns regarding supplies and safety issues to Unit Managers and perform other duties as required.

Grade 12 or equivalent.

A High School Diploma is required. A minimum of one year of previous experience in a healthcare environment and current CPR are required. The ability to organize tasks with minimal supervision and to adapt to frequent interruptions in work activities; and the ability to work independently and assess work priorities is also required. Basic knowledge of computer programs, such as email, is required. The incumbent must possess excellent interpersonal and public relations skills, as well as be able to demonstrate the ability to read, write, speak, understand, and follow written and oral directions in English. This position requires the ability to work as a member of a multi-disciplinary team and display tact, courtesy, and discretion at all times. All new employees will be required to attend a 1-day Environmental Services Orientation and a 1-day AHS Orientation. Previous knowledge and application of WHMIS preferred. A combination of education, training and relevant experience may be considered. Preference will be given to internal AHS applicants. Experience in Environmental Services or Service Worker I is an asset.
