The Service Worker I assists professional personnel in caring for patients by ensuring availability of required supplies and equipment. They will be responsible for stocking supplies, portering patients, transporting specimens to lab as needed, and other duties as required. The incumbent plays an integral role in Infection Prevention by maintaining cleanliness of equipment, supplies and unit in accordance with Infection Prevention Standards. Must maintain a courteous and helpful approach with other team members, families and patients. The incumbent must utilize initiative and judgment in performing duties. Physical demands of the job involve periods of physical activity such as standing, bending, twisting, walking, and lifting weights up to 25 kg. As a Service Worker I, you may transport patients and equipment to and from the unit as well as distribute and replenish supplies throughout the unit. You may also transport lab specimens, blood and blood products, patient charts, and clean patient care equipment. You will report any concerns regarding supplies and safety issues to Unit Manager and perform other duties as required.

As a Service Worker I, you will be responsible for transporting patients (clients/residents) and equipment to and from different patient care areas within a hospital site. You will distribute and replenish hospital supplies throughout the units and clean equipment and patient care areas as directed. You may also transport lab specimens, blood and blood products, and patient charts. You will report any concerns regarding supplies and safety issues to Unit Managers and perform other duties as required.

Grade 12 or equivalent.

WHMIS and current CPR is required. Current BCLS - HCP Certification required. (Must be Heart and Stroke Standards HCP Level C taken within last 12 months.) Demonstrated organizational, communication & interpersonal skills. Must be reliable, cooperative and demonstrate effective service attitude and professionalism. Ability to function both independently and as a team member in an interdisciplinary environment.

Recent Service Worker experience is preferred with a preference given to applicants with at least one year of recent experience. Medicine or Surgery Program experience. Medical Terminology preferred. Prior knowledge of medical equipment & supplies preferred. Non-Violent Crisis Intervention preferred.
