Description
An exciting opportunity exists for a Service Worker I to work with the multidisciplinary Orthopedic Surgery Centre team. Reporting to the Unit Manager of the Inpatient Unit 310, the Service Worker is an integral member of the team. The Service Worker ensures that specialized equipment used on the inpatient units are cleaned and maintained according to manufacturer and AHS infection prevention and control standards and collaborates with Environmental Services in cleaning and disinfecting various areas of the clinic environment. Other duties include setting up equipment in patient care areas, transporting patients and equipment, rooming patients and stocking supplies. The Service Worker is required to provide patients and families with a clean, comfortable and safe environment by utilizing judgment in the execution and prioritization of general housekeeping duties, linens, supplies, waste handling and maintaining patient confidentiality. This role will include other duties to assist with meeting patient care and the operational needs of the program while recognizing the value of and working within a Family Centered Care philosophy. The Service Worker works independently by prioritizing and making decisions regarding workflow as it relates to the scope of employment for the Service Worker.
As a Service Worker I, you will be responsible for transporting patients (clients/residents) and equipment to and from different patient care areas within a hospital site. You will distribute and replenish hospital supplies throughout the units and clean equipment and patient care areas as directed. You may also transport lab specimens, blood and blood products, and patient charts. You will report any concerns regarding supplies and safety issues to Unit Managers and perform other duties as required.
Grade 12 or equivalent.
A minimum of one year of previous experience in a healthcare environment and current CPR are required. The ability to organize tasks with minimal supervision and to adapt to frequent interruptions in work activities; and the ability to work independently and assess work priorities is also required. Basic knowledge of computer programs, such as email, is required. The incumbent must possess excellent interpersonal and public relations skills, as well as be able to demonstrate the ability to read, write, speak, understand and follow written and oral directions in English. This position requires the ability to work as a member of a multi-disciplinary team and display tact, courtesy and discretion at all times.
Previous knowledge and application of WHMIS preferred.
