Description
The Service Worker, who reports to the Clinic Manager, plays an essential role in supporting the 3B Medicine Clinic by ensuring a clean, safe, and well-equipped environment for patient care. Working collaboratively with the healthcare team, the Service Worker is responsible for maintaining hygiene in patient areas, disinfecting equipment, removing soiled linens and garbage, and replenishing linen supplies. The role also involves managing medical and surgical inventory, including ordering, receiving, distributing, and rotating supplies to ensure availability and efficiency. Additionally, the Service Worker responds to requests for the delivery of lab samples, equipment, supplies, and medications. They also assist with patient transport by escorting or moving patients using wheelchairs and stretchers. This position requires strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and a commitment to supporting high-quality clinical care.
As a Service Worker I, you will be responsible for transporting patients (clients/residents) and equipment to and from different patient care areas within a hospital site. You will distribute and replenish hospital supplies throughout the units and clean equipment and patient care areas as directed. You may also transport lab specimens, blood and blood products, and patient charts. You will report any concerns regarding supplies and safety issues to Unit Managers and perform other duties as required.
Grade 12 or equivalent.
The ideal candidate must hold a current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP) certification. Recent experience as a service worker, particularly within an ambulatory medicine setting, is required. Candidates will possess basic computer skills, including the use of email, and demonstrate the physical ability to frequently lift, pull, and push more than 20 pounds. The role also requires the stamina to stand and walk for extended periods, as well as the ability to independently transport adult patients. Strong communication skills are essential, with the ability to interact clearly, effectively, and respectfully with all members of the healthcare team.
Familiarity with Alberta Health Services (AHS) policies and procedures, including those related to Hand Hygiene, Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), Linen and Laundry handling, Waste Management, and approved cleaning practices, is preferred.
