Cancer Care Alberta (CCA) is seeking a Senior Project Manager, Performance Excellence to lead strategic initiatives that improve patient care, system performance, and sustainability across Alberta’s cancer system. In addition to managing high-priority projects, the Senior Project Manager (Senior PM) has a key leadership role in building project management capacity in CCA through the design and management of a Project Management Center of Excellence. Reporting to the Director, Performance Excellence, the Senior PM provides project management services and expertise to plan, implement, monitor, and ensure sustainability of strategic initiatives that improve patient care and system performance. Projects are complex and often involve: multiple phases and integrated workstreams, advanced and technical subject matter, collaboration across departments, sites, and external partners, dependencies with other provincial initiatives. The Senior PM applies advanced project management methodology, skillfully facilitating diverse groups and engaging collaborators to address complex issues. In addition to managing projects, the Senior PM has a key leadership role in building project management capacity in CCA through the design and management of a Project Management Center of Excellence including: standardized project management tools, templates, and collaborative platforms (eg: MS Teams & SharePoint), project management consultation and mentorship, project prioritization, resource identification, and project reporting, performance measurement framework and dashboard. The Senior PM is committed to continuous quality improvement and contributes to strategic planning, systematic evaluation, and identification and prioritization of future quality improvement projects. The Senior PM possesses the skills to analyze and synthesize data and information to advance innovation and support evidence-informed decision making. The Senior PM works within a team-based, matrixed resourcing environment and will lead functional teams. The role requires specialized and advanced expertise, knowledge and skill, along with considerable experience within healthcare environments. The Senior PM works with a high degree of independence on assigned projects, with support from the Performance Excellence Team. This position requires occasional provincial travel and opportunities to work in-person with collocated team members for key meetings and workshops.

Bachelor’s degree in business or healthcare related field. Professional designation in project management (eg: PMP). 5 yrs PM experience, including expert knowledge of principles, tools and methodologies. 3 yrs experience leading large projects in a healthcare organization of significant size, complexity and diversity, through the project lifecycle including evaluation and sustainability.

Leadership skills including decision-making, leading through influence, coaching, and teaching. Experience overseeing provincial project teams in a matrixed environment (eg: Analytics, IT, Quality Improvement, Change Management, Professional Practice, Communications). Experience working with health professionals, executives, and engaging patients & families. Highly effective communicator including developing project communications (eg: infographics, briefing notes, reports, videos). Advanced proficiency and ability to coach others in MS Office suite including Project, Visio, SharePoint, Teams, Excel, OneNote, Outlook, Word, PowerPoint. Ability to analyze and synthesize data. Strong facilitation and mediation skills. Demonstrated application of systems thinking and change management. Ability to deal with highly complex or sensitive issues in a professional manner. Ability to work independently with limited supervision, under pressure with adherence to firm deadlines.

Graduate degree in business or health related field. Formal training in QI or business management. Working knowledge of CCA and AHS. Oncology experience. Experience in program evaluation including logic models and evaluation frameworks. Advanced training in change management and implementation science. Financial and analytic acumen. Experience designing apps & websites, Connect Care, CCA & AHS applications. Experience designing surveys and reports in RedCap, Tableau, and other reporting tools.
