Are you looking for an amazing opportunity that features the practical implementation of epidemiology data, analytics and research toward the improvement of Cancer Care in Alberta? Cancer Advanced Analytics is currently looking for a Senior Epidemiologist to join our dedicated Cancer Care team. The Senior Epidemiologist with provide epidemiological and analytic support to program areas, public health concerns, academic researchers and clinician scientists. Our goal is to be a leader in cancer detection, diagnosis, treatment, survivorship, and palliative care, all on a foundation of world-class research. You will work with leadership, public health professionals, clinician scientists and researchers on a variety of projects. The position is embedded in a team of analysts, senior analysts, programmers, and data scientists, who work collaboratively on developing and providing analysis and evidence to answer important research questions and drive health system improvements. The efficient use of big data within the health care system promises to revolutionize healthcare, improve patient outcomes and drive the knowledge base of medicine forward through real-world evidence. As the Epidemiologist you will be utilizing real world health data to support Cancer related activities provincially.

Reporting to the Director, Cancer Advanced Analytics, Cancer Research & Analytics (CRA), the Epidemiologist will work as part of a team that collects, analyzes and interprets information concerning cancer occurrences, cancer risk factors, and cancer care in Alberta. In addition to support the day-to-day activities of the department, the Epidemiologist will consult with clients (e.g. multi-disciplinary teams, physicians, general public) to identify cancer incidence inquiries, develop an analytical plan to address the concerns, report on the findings and respond to the requestor. Once the analysis and epidemiological interpretation is complete the incumbent may be required to present findings to stakeholders and leadership. This involves explaining complex statistical analysis to a non-technical audience.

MSc plus experience in Epidemiology and analysis, specifically population-based analysis. Working with spreadsheets, databases and tools for querying, integrating, analyzing, interpreting, reporting and disseminating data. Proficiency in python, R or comparable statistical methodological tools (e.g., predictive analytics modeling, risk scoring, provider profiling). Applied statistics, including experimental design, sampling rates, confidence intervals, regression models, etc. Statistical analyses of complex and large datasets, including segmentation, advanced multivariate and longitudinal modeling, and forecasting. Managing multiple concurrent projects and meeting deadlines.

Knowledge and ability to produce a variety of descriptive, inferential and predictive statistics. Proficiency in Tableau or other visualization tools. Demonstrated capability applying ‘big data’ analytic techniques such as data mining, machine learning, statistical modeling, etc. Proficiency in English, with excellent communication skills and ability to interact with clients by presenting complex modeling analyses, methods and findings in business- and user-friendly language. Demonstrated ability to work with others effectively in teams. Demonstrated aptitude for educating, motivating, and influencing. Comprehensive understanding of health systems. Working knowledge of Microsoft Office suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Visio and Access) and the ability to become proficient with new software packages. Must abide by the highest standards of confidentiality and have a sound understanding of the principles within Alberta’s Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act, as well as the Health Information Act.

Experience with administrative and surveillance analytics within a health system and a clear understanding of the connection and interdependency between successful initiatives and measurement is an asset. Programming skills in R, Python, or other similar tools. Advanced skills in T-SQL, PS/SQL. Operations Research experience in health system analytics, preferably cancer.
