If so, we invite you to apply for the Senior Analyst position within the Surveillance & Reporting team in Cancer Advanced Analytics, Data & Analytics. The Surveillance & Reporting team plays an important role in supporting cancer care across Alberta by leading cancer surveillance activities and providing advanced analytics and reporting support to inform operational planning, service improvement, decision-making, and broader cancer control efforts. As part of a collaborative team of analysts, programmers, biostatisticians, and epidemiologists, you will contribute to meaningful work that supports evidence-informed decision-making and improved outcomes for cancer patients across Alberta. This position is ideal for a highly skilled analytical professional who enjoys solving complex business and healthcare problems using advanced statistical methods, machine learning, and modern data technologies. The successful candidate will lead analytical initiatives from concept to implementation, partnering with stakeholders to identify opportunities, develop analytical approaches, and deliver data-driven solutions that support organizational priorities.

Reporting to the Manager, Surveillance & Reporting, the Senior Analyst provides advanced analytical expertise to support cancer surveillance, healthcare operations, program evaluation, and strategic decision-making. The Senior Analyst serves as a senior technical resource within the team and is responsible for leading complex analytics projects involving large and diverse healthcare datasets. The successful candidate will work with a variety of healthcare data sources, including the Alberta Cancer Registry, Electronic Medical Record databases, administrative health datasets, and other clinical and operational data sources. The Senior Analyst will identify appropriate analytical methodologies and provide clear interpretation and actionable recommendations to support decision-making. This role requires strong technical expertise in data extraction, transformation, statistical analysis, and modeling. The Senior Analyst will leverage tools such as SQL, Python, R, and modern cloud-based analytics platforms to design and implement scalable analytical solutions. The Senior Analyst will collaborate closely with operational stakeholders, clinicians, researchers, and technical teams to understand business challenges, establish analytical approaches, and communicate findings to both technical and non-technical audiences. Responsibilities also include ensuring data quality, analytical rigor, reproducibility, and adherence to data governance and privacy requirements.

Master’s degree in Statistics, Data Science, or a related quantitative field; equivalent combinations of education, training, and experience may be considered. Five or more years of experience in healthcare analytics, data science, business intelligence, epidemiology, or a related analytical field. Advanced experience extracting, transforming, and analyzing large and complex datasets using SQL. Strong programming experience in Python and/or R for statistical analysis, data manipulation, automation, and model development. Experience applying advanced analytical techniques, including statistical modeling, predictive analytics, machine learning, or artificial intelligence. Experience working with large-scale data platforms, cloud-based analytics environments, or modern data warehousing technologies (e.g., Snowflake). Experience integrating and analyzing data from multiple sources to generate actionable insights. Strong verbal and written communication skills with the ability to present complex analytical findings to diverse audiences. Demonstrated ability to independently lead complex analytical projects and manage multiple priorities.

Demonstrated expertise in advanced statistical methods and analytical techniques. Experience designing, validating, and implementing predictive or machine learning models. Strong understanding of data management, data governance, data quality, and analytical best practices. Demonstrated ability to translate business problems into analytical solutions and recommendations. Experience mentoring junior analysts and providing technical leadership on analytical initiatives. Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively within multidisciplinary teams.

Demonstrated ability to work efficiently and independently in a fast-paced environment, managing multiple priorities and delivering high-quality analytical solutions within established timelines. Experience using Snowflake or other enterprise cloud-based data platforms. Experience developing reproducible analytical pipelines and automated data workflows. Experience working with cancer care, oncology, population health, healthcare operations, or health services research data.
