Respiratory Therapist II

The Respiratory Therapist (RRT II) is a key member of a high-performing interprofessional team, delivering advanced pulmonary diagnostics and contributing to exceptional patient care. In this role, you’ll work to full scope, performing specialized testing including pulmonary function testing, bronchial challenge testing, cardiopulmonary exercise testing (CPET), and arterial blood gas sampling and analysis. You’ll also have the opportunity to support bronchoscopy procedures, participate in tracheostomy and home oxygen qualification clinics, and play an active role in patient and team education. Beyond clinical work, you’ll contribute to quality assurance, equipment maintenance, and ongoing process improvement within the department. As a Respiratory Therapist II, you will coordinate, monitor and assess clinical services in your assigned area. You will act as a clinical resource for daily operations, coordinating the work of therapy assessment and treatment in your service area, and assist in the development of clinical protocols. You will develop and implement respiratory therapy care plans and monitor the progress of patients (clients, residents) receiving advanced respiratory treatment. You will identify new equipment requirements, and establish and maintain adequate levels of supplies and materials for your area. You will be responsible for respiratory equipment, including but not limited to operation, procurement, maintenance, and quality assurance. You will participate in interprofessional patient, client or resident rounds, conferences and meetings where applicable.

Active or eligible registration with the College and Association of Respiratory Therapists of Alberta (CARTA).

Graduate of an accredited Respiratory Therapy program with a minimum of 2 years’ experience in acute care Respiratory Therapy within the past 10 years. Candidates must have at least 1 year of recent experience in Pulmonary Diagnostics (within the past 3 years) and hold a current BCLS-HCP certification. This role requires the ability to stand and walk for extended periods, safely lift, move, and position patients, and push, pull, or handle equipment of 20 lbs or more. The position also involves working in clinical environments with potential exposure to infectious diseases and other workplace hazards.

Experience with Connect Care, Netcare and Ascent software is an asset. Knowledge of AADL home oxygen walk testing. Completion of PLC site orientation is preferred. Current ACLS certification (with expiry date) and additional credentials such as CRE, CAE, or CTE are considered strong assets. Completed preceptor training and evidence of ongoing professional development within the last 3 years (courses, certifications, or continuing education).
