Description

The Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) in Pulmonary Diagnostic clinics will work collaboratively with interdisciplinary teams to assist in the diagnosis and management of patients with cardiopulmonary and related disorders. Their key responsibilities include but not exclusive to: operate a variety of equipment; perform a variety of pulmonary function testing, assist in research studies, in bronchoscopy suite and general clinics. The RRT will actively participate in the education of patients, students, other staff, and physicians; contribute to department’s process and quality improvement; participate in accreditation readiness; maintain a professional and accountable practice; advocate professionally for patient while adhering to AHS key principles of patient and family centered care; and provide technical support for all Respiratory equipment. This position will adhere to practice in alignment with AHS Code of Conduct; strive for excellence in professional practice, using self-reflection and goal setting to guide development and growth; pursue ongoing skill development, learning, critical thinking and innovation; display and model behavior that enacts AHS values; promote and maintain a safe, productive and respectful work environment and able to effectively resolve conflicts.
As a Respiratory Therapist II, you will coordinate, monitor and assess clinical services in your assigned area. You will act as a clinical resource for daily operations, coordinating the work of therapy assessment and treatment in your service area, and assist in the development of clinical protocols. You will develop and implement respiratory therapy care plans and monitor the progress of patients (clients, residents) receiving advanced respiratory treatment. You will identify new equipment requirements, and establish and maintain adequate levels of supplies and materials for your area. You will be responsible for respiratory equipment, including but not limited to operation, procurement, maintenance, and quality assurance. You will participate in interprofessional patient, client or resident rounds, conferences and meetings where applicable.
Active or eligible registration with the College and Association of Respiratory Therapists of Alberta (CARTA).
Graduate of an accredited school of Respiratory Therapy. Current BLS certification including expiration date. Minimum 1-year full time of independent clinical Respiratory Therapy experience within the last 3 years in an acute care hospital setting Excellent organizational, interpersonal and communication skills. Proven ability to work both independently as part of a multidisciplinary team. Ability to work under pressure and handle competing priorities. Proven advanced decision making and problem-solving abilities. Proven attention to detail with high level of accuracy. Proficiency in a variety of computer software programs. Ability to push/pull a stretcher, to lift 15 lbs. up to waist height. Ability to wear an N95 mask and lead apron for the duration of interventional bronchoscopy. Ability to stand for long periods of time. Ability to work in dim conditions.
Experience working with MGC body boxes and Ascent systems preferred. Recent experience in hospital based pulmonary function testing and bronchoscopy testing. CRE/CAE/CTE certifications.
