The Respiratory Therapist II (RRT) provides leadership and expertise in the field of neonatal respiratory therapy and will work collaboratively with the interdisciplinary team to assist in the diagnosis and management of patients with cardiopulmonary and related disorders. This is a neonatal patient transport position. You will actively participate in the education of patients, parents, students, staff, and physicians; contribute to department and/or service area process improvement; maintain a professional and accountable practice; advocate professionally and effectively for patients using the principles of patient and family centered care; and provide technical support for all Respiratory Therapy equipment. All RRT positions at FMC are expected to be able to work in all areas that Respiratory Services clinically supports if required. Daily service area assignments can be adjusted at the manager’s discretion to meet department and operational needs. Primary assignment of posting is NICU. A demonstrated pattern of professional development; display of interpersonal, communication, problem-solving, and critical thinking skills; ability to manage competing priorities, be self-directed, exercise independent decision making and effectively resolve conflict; and promotion of a healthy, respectful, and safe work environment are required. Current rotation includes days and nights.

As a Respiratory Therapist I, you will assess patients (clients, resident), develop and implement respiratory therapy care plans and monitor their progress. You will be responsible for various diagnostic and therapeutic equipment and interventions. You will collaborate with various clinical teams and groups to enhance clinical outcomes. You will provide training and assist health care providers in the use and care of respiratory equipment as well as educate patients and their families regarding diseases, medications, equipment and treatments.

Active or eligible registration with the College of Respiratory Therapists of Alberta (CRTA).

Graduate of an accredited school of Respiratory Therapy. Current BLS certification including expiration date. Current NRP certification including expiration date. Current independent clinical Respiratory Therapy experience in an acute care hospital setting. Current experience in a Level III NICU. This RRT position includes the following physical requirements: being on one's feet for extended periods of time (including walking/standing), exposure to prolonged shifts, exposure to elements specific to patient transport environments, exposure to infectious diseases, and hazardous situations for which they are trained; be able to assist in transporting, lifting and positioning of patients; be able to bend, lift, push, and pull equipment up to 40lbs

Current experience in a Level III NICU. Wards, Emerge, CVICU experience. Bachelor’s degree - health related. Prof. development (within last 3 years). Preceptor training courses. Charge experience. Participation in a healthcare committee (in the last 3 years)
