Description
This is a temporary full-time position to support independent clinical practice of new respiratory therapy graduates. The Respiratory Therapist provides leadership and expertise in the field of Respiratory Therapy and will work collaboratively with the interdisciplinary team to assist in the diagnosis and management of patients with cardiopulmonary and related disorders. You will actively participate in the education of patients, students, staff, and physicians; contribute to department and/or service area process improvement; maintain a professional and accountable practice; advocate professionally and effectively for patients using the principles of patient and family centered care; and provide technical support for all Respiratory Therapy equipment. This RT position at Rockyview General Hospital is expected to be able to work in multiple areas (ED, ICU & wards) that Respiratory Services clinically supports if required. Daily service area assignments can be adjusted at the manager’s discretion to meet department and operational needs. A demonstrated pattern of professional development; display of interpersonal, communication, problem-solving, and critical thinking skills; ability to manage competing priorities, be self-directed, exercise independent decision making and effectively resolve conflict; and promotion of a healthy, respectful, and safe work environment are required.
As a Respiratory Therapist I, you will assess patients (clients, resident), develop and implement respiratory therapy care plans and monitor their progress. You will be responsible for various diagnostic and therapeutic equipment and interventions. You will collaborate with various clinical teams and groups to enhance clinical outcomes. You will provide training and assist health care providers in the use and care of respiratory equipment as well as educate patients and their families regarding diseases, medications, equipment and treatments.
Active or eligible registration with the College of Respiratory Therapists of Alberta (CRTA).
Graduate from a recognized School of Respiratory Therapy in 2026 is required. Must be eligible to write or have passed the National Respiratory Certification Exam. Current Basic Cardiac Life Support-Healthcare Provider (BCLS-HCP) required. Excellent written and verbal communication and clinical documentation is required. Excellent organization, critical thinking and problem-solving skills. effective at working independently and within a team environment. Able to prioritize and complete assigned tasks. Highly motivated and positive attitude. This RRT position includes the following physical requirements: being on one's feet for extended periods of time (including walking/standing), exposure to infectious diseases, and hazardous situations for which they are trained; be able to assist in transporting, lifting, and positioning of patients; be able to bend, lift, push, and pull equipment up to 20lbs.
RGH site orientation/student experience highly preferred. Current NRP/PALS/ACLS certification. CSRT membership. Preceptor training completed or enrolled.
