Located in Northeast Calgary, the Peter Lougheed Centre (PLC) is a 600+ bed acute care hospital providing comprehensive inpatient and outpatient services. PLC serves as the Vascular Centre for Southern Alberta, Southwestern Saskatchewan, and Southeastern British Columbia and is committed to Patient and Family Centred Care. Respiratory Services supports the ICU, Emergency Department, inpatient units, and a Level II NICU. PLC is home to Alberta’s only Chronic Ventilation Program, with respirologists specializing in areas including Pulmonary Hypertension and Neuromuscular Disease. The successful candidate will provide clinical care, patient and staff education, equipment support and contribute to quality improvement initiatives. All RRTs must be able to work across all service areas as operationally required. Daily assignments may be adjusted based on departmental needs. This position will primarily support the NICU and Wards, with potential coverage in ICU and Emergency, as required. The schedule includes 8-hour day and night shifts.

As a Respiratory Therapist I, you will assess patients (clients, resident), develop and implement respiratory therapy care plans and monitor their progress. You will be responsible for various diagnostic and therapeutic equipment and interventions. You will collaborate with various clinical teams and groups to enhance clinical outcomes. You will provide training and assist health care providers in the use and care of respiratory equipment as well as educate patients and their families regarding diseases, medications, equipment and treatments.

Active or eligible registration with the College and Association of Respiratory Therapists of Alberta (CARTA).

Graduate of an accredited school of Respiratory Therapy. Current BCLS-HCP certification including expiration date. Minimum 1-year independent clinical Respiratory Therapy experience in an acute care hospital setting within the last 5 years. This RRT position includes the following physical requirements: being on one's feet for extended periods of time (including walking/standing), exposure to infectious diseases, and hazardous situations for which they are trained; be able to assist in transporting, lifting, and positioning of patients; be able to bend, lift, push, and pull equipment up to 20lbs and sometimes exceeding 20 lbs.

Independent clinical RRT experience in a Level II/III NICU within the last 5 years. Current NRP Certification, including expiration date. Current PALS, ACLS, CRE certification, including expiration date. Preceptor training courses. Completed orientation to the PLC site.
