Description
The Research II position supports the Public Health Surveillance Informatics (PHSI), working with internal and external stakeholders in an interdisciplinary team. Accountable to the Lead, Data Management & Quality Assurance, this role involves understanding Data Management, Data Quality, Population Health, and health systems. The Research II role involves stakeholder relations, overseeing diverse project requirements, and collaborating with Medical Officers of Health, senior analysts, IT professionals, researchers, and government health agencies. Responsibilities include collecting, analyzing, and interpreting population and public health data. This role focuses on advanced data management, analytics, reporting, and dashboard development. The Research II position consults with clients to define service/information requests, selects methodology and data sources, conducts analysis, and presents findings to support operational planning, strategic planning, program evaluation, evidence-based decision-making, and performance reporting in public health areas for AHS. The Research II role involves utilizing diverse data sources (e.g., population, socio-demographics, healthcare utilization) to describe and monitor population health. Responsibilities include organizing, integrating, and managing data using tools SQL, Python, Tableau in Snowflake. The position requires establishing positive relationships with key staff and analyzing trends, implementing alerts using methods like cluster and changepoint detection.
As a Research II, you will be responsible for coordinating research activities which generate and disseminate new knowledge that assists with advancing the understanding of health disciplines and various health and medical concerns. Working with the principal investigator, you will assist with the study design and development of research protocols, determine appropriate data collection methods and measurement procedures, interpret results, develop recommendations and coordinate study approvals. You will also contribute to grant submissions and budgeting, conduct literature reviews and environmental scans and provide day-to-day oversight of research studies/projects.
Master's degree in a health or science related field. Registration with applicable professional association or college where required.
Proficiency in database management (SQL, Oracle, Snowflake), ETL tools, data quality and profiling tools, and programming languages such as Python for data manipulation and automation. Strong understanding of data quality frameworks (accuracy, completeness, consistency), regulatory compliance (Health data privacy), and data warehousing concepts. Academic backgrounds in computer sciences, information technology, data science, statistics, or related fields. Essential skills in data modeling, database systems, and analytical problem-solving to manage large and complex health data. Experience working in projects that involve multiple stakeholders. Demonstrated ability to work independently and as an effective team member in a high-paced team setting. Strong problem solving, critical appraisal and decision-making skills.
Master’s degree in computer sciences/engineering, information technology, data science, statistics, or related fields with three years of progressive health-related experience preferred. Demonstrated clear patterns of professional and personal development. Proven expertise in data management, quality assurance, data validation, and ensuring accuracy and integrity of complex datasets.
