As a member of the multi-disciplinary team, reporting to the Manager, Drumheller Community Addiction and Mental Health, Central Zone -you will provide emergent intervention, screening, risk and mental health assessment, provisional diagnostic and treatment planning services to adults with acute, and chronic psychiatric disorders. Service is primarily provided to adult clients but you may on occasion respond to clients’ needs of all age group with addiction and psychiatric disorders, i.e., children, adolescents, adults. This position is responsible for assessment/intervention, direct assistance in problem solving and short-term case management. Direct client care includes responding, screening, and prioritizing service, conducting necessary assessment and providing treatment to clients including mental status and risk assessments and short term brief therapy. This position also provides service to local ER, post discharge planning and to the local walk in AMH clinic. Familiarity with mental health legislation is essential to provide both education; clinical care and collaborative working relationships with other health professionals. Suicide and Homicidal Risk Assessment is essential in this role. Utilizing a brief therapy model you will provide consultation to community agencies, physicians, and other key stakeholders in the care continuum of addiction and mental health. As an active and supportive treatment member, you have excellent communication skills, and the ability to work independently. You are a self-directed, highly motivated individual with exceptional leadership, organizational, and problem solving that is able to manage change and deal with a fast paced.

As a Registered Psychiatric Nurse (RPN), you will provide leadership through a wide variety of nursing services to patients (clients, residents) for the purpose of promoting, maintaining or restoring health, mental health and preventing mental illness, injury and disability. You will teach, counsel and advocate on behalf of patients and take necessary steps to ensure their safety and well-being. You will provide safe, quality patient and family centered care, while reflecting the shared vision and values of AHS.

Completion of an accredited Psychiatric nursing education program. Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the College of Registered Psychiatric Nurses of Alberta (CRPNA). Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP).
