Description
Alberta Health Services (AHS) is looking for a Registered Nurse (RN) to join our Labour and Delivery team at the Medicine Hat Regional Hospital (MHRH). MHRH is a full service hospital that provides services to Medicine Hat and surrounding areas in high need areas including: Women’s Health, NICU, Emergency, Surgery, and Mental Health. Reporting to the manager, the RN provides care within the scope of practice as defined by the College of Registered Nurses of Alberta. The RN will be guided by their education, experience, demonstrated skill level and Alberta Health Services policies, procedures, and position description. The Labour and Delivery unit includes 4 assessment beds, 6 labour beds, 2 pre-op beds, and 2 post anesthetic recovery room beds at the Medicine Hat Regional Hospital. The focus of care is antepartum, intrapartum, postpartum, and recovery care. This position is part of an inter-professional health care team utilizing processes, crucial thinking problem solving and decision-making skills. The RN accepts responsibility for continuing competencies through ongoing professional development including participation in education programs and quality improvement activities. Within the Women’s Health program, MHRH has implemented the patient and family centered care model.
As a Registered Nurse (RN), you will provide a wide variety of nursing services to patients, families, communities and populations, while taking necessary steps to ensure their safety and well-being. In your role, you will utilize nursing processes, through critical thinking, problem solving and decision making, as well as teach, counsel and advocate on behalf of patients and their families. You will play a leadership role in supporting an integrated and holistic approach to patient care, health promotion and maintenance. You will provide safe, quality patient and family centered care while reflecting the shared vision and values. PLEASE NOTE: Provisional Permit holders will be paid $40.76 to $55.79 per hour. Upon obtaining a full practice permit, the rate of pay will be adjusted to the applicable Registered Nurse rate in accordance with UNA Article 25.02(b)(i) or (ii), as applicable.
Completion of an accredited nursing education program. Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the College of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CRNA). Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP) certification. Minimum one year nursing experience obtained within the past 2 years working greater than 0.60 FTE. Experience in labour & delivery, antepartum, post anesthetic recovery, newborn care. Neonatal resuscitation level 1-9 and fetal health certification. A willingness to learn new skills as required. Ability to work shift work and meet the physical demands of the job.
Baccalaureate in Nursing degree. Labour and Delivery experience (obtained within the last year working greater than 0.50 FTE). Certification(s)/ training in specialty area including: MoreOB , ACORN, Breastfeeding education, IV initiation /management, IV drug administration, blood administration, spinal & epidural anesthesia, HELP (STORK), knowledge of antepartum, intrapartum, postpartum pathways. Perinatal Specialty Certificate.
