The Foothills Medical Centre Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (FMC NICU) is a 39 bed, level 3 unit located in Calgary, Alberta. Critically ill neonates from Southern Alberta receive lifesaving care in the FMC NICU. It is a fast paced and constantly evolving environment that is supported by a large multidisciplinary team. The successful candidate will be required to coordinate the delivery of nursing care for the sick and critically ill neonate in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit. The nurse will participate in family teaching and provide leadership by working cooperatively with the multidisciplinary team in maintaining standards of professional nursing practice in the clinical setting. The nurse will maintain positive working relationships with parents, families, and co-workers, and be able to independently manage multiple priorities. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills are necessary to succeed in the fast-paced environment of the FMC NICU. The successful candidate will have an active role in facilitating family centered care and preceptorship of new staff and students. To apply for this position, the applicant must be committed to the completion of a detailed level 3 NICU orientation program. The successful applicant agrees to work a full-time equivalency until completion of the orientation. This includes all didactic and precepted patient care components and generally takes 8-10 weeks to complete.

As a Registered Nurse (RN), you will provide a wide variety of nursing services to patients, families, communities and populations, while taking necessary steps to ensure their safety and well-being. In your role, you will utilize nursing processes, through critical thinking, problem solving and decision making, as well as teach, counsel and advocate on behalf of patients and their families. You will play a leadership role in supporting an integrated and holistic approach to patient care, health promotion and maintenance. You will provide safe, quality patient and family centered care while reflecting the shared vision and values of AHS. PLEASE NOTE: Provisional Permit holders will be paid $40.76 to $55.79 per hour. Upon obtaining a full practice permit, the rate of pay will be adjusted to the applicable Registered Nurse rate in accordance with UNA Article 25.02(b)(i) or (ii), as applicable.

Completion of an accredited nursing education program. Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the College of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CRNA). Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP) certification. As Required.

Completion of the post RN NICU course. Greater than 3 years of recent, NICU experience. 2 years of Level 3 NICU exp. Critical care experience. NRP Certification. Charge Nurse or Acting Nurse Clinician experience. Post graduate continuing education on breastfeeding teaching and support. Baccalaureate degree in nursing. Proficiency with Connect Care, BMT system. Education in quality improvement. Education in change management.
