High River General Hospital supports a busy rural community located just south of Calgary with a 24-hour Emergency Department, Surgical Services, Obstetrical Department, Cancer Care, and Medical Inpatients Unit. The Registered Nurse (RN) in the Surgical Services department works as a member of the health care team, collaborating on the delivery of holistic, comprehensive care to meet the needs of the patients, families, & community. The RN will work to full scope, provide a leadership role in supporting an integrated approach to patient care, families & health care team. The successful candidate will work in all areas of the Surgery Department including in the OR Theatres, Endoscope and PACU. Additional Surgical Services areas include Day Surgery (Pre- and Post-Operative patient care). The RN must be able to adapt quickly to changing & fluctuating workloads and demonstrate initiative, accountability, critical thinking and strong clinical skills. Ability to respond to emergent medical and/or surgical situations quickly and appropriately is necessary. Effective written and verbal communication skills are required as is a commitment to integrating Patient and Family Centered Care principles, professional development/growth & promoting a positive work culture aligning with AHS values. Being a preceptor and/or mentor for students and staff is an expectation. As a Registered Nurse (RN), you will provide a wide variety of nursing services to patients, families, communities and populations, while taking necessary steps to ensure their safety and well-being. In your role, you will utilize nursing processes, through critical thinking, problem solving and decision making, as well as teach, counsel and advocate on behalf of patients and their families. You will play a leadership role in supporting an integrated and holistic approach to patient care, health promotion and maintenance. You will provide safe, quality patient and family centered care while reflecting the shared vision and values of AHS. PLEASE NOTE: Provisional Permit holders will be paid $39.58 - $54.16 per hour. Upon obtaining a full licence, the rate of pay will be adjusted to the applicable Registered Nurse rate in accordance with UNA Article 25.02(b)(i) or (ii) as applicable.
Completion of an accredited nursing education program. Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the College of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CRNA). Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP) certification. Active registration with CRNA. Completion of accredited Perioperative Nurse Certification. Completion of accredited Perioperative Anesthesia Course. The Nurse requires the ability to tolerate constant walking, standing, kneeling, bending, reaching, and sustaining posture within a fast-paced unit requiring lifting, pushing, pulling of objects greater than 50lbs.
Endoscopy experience. Recent Urban Obstetrical OR experience. Rural Acute Care and/or Rural ER experience within the last twelve months. Demonstrated Preceptor expertise. Previous Committee involvement. Previous experience with Quality Improvement. Skill in developing positive team relationships and supporting unit/site leaders. Demonstrated adherence to ORNAC, NAPCAN, CRNA and AHS Best Practices. Involvement in development of Best Practice Guidelines and/or Organizational Policy.
