Registered Nurse

Are you a Registered Nurse (RN) who has always wanted to work with mothers and babies? Unit 25 (Postpartum) is looking for RNs who are passionate about maternal /child nursing. We offer a classroom-based orientation program with buddy shifts to facilitate learning and skill development. If this is an area you have always wanted to work in, come join our team and we will learn together! The preferred candidate for this unit is one who has a strong interest, experience, and ability to provide family centered care to the postpartum patient, newborn, and family. Experience in postpartum and newborn assessment is a definite asset. Candidates who enjoy teaching and supporting patients in the parenting role will find this role rewarding. Additional education in breastfeeding support will be beneficial. Please note the start dates will vary depending on individual orientation requirements.

As a Registered Nurse (RN), you will provide a wide variety of nursing services to patients, families, communities and populations, while taking necessary steps to ensure their safety and well-being. In your role, you will utilize nursing processes, through critical thinking, problem solving and decision making, as well as teach, counsel and advocate on behalf of patients and their families. You will play a leadership role in supporting an integrated and holistic approach to patient care, health promotion and maintenance. You will provide safe, quality patient and family centered care while reflecting the shared vision and values of AHS. PLEASE NOTE: Provisional Permit holders will be paid $39.58 - $54.16 per hour. Upon obtaining a full licence, the rate of pay will be adjusted to the applicable Registered Nurse rate in accordance with UNA Article 25.02(b)(i) or (ii) as applicable.

Completion of an accredited nursing education program. Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the College of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CRNA). Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP) certification. Good communication skills and the ability to maintain effective relationships. Competence in relevant technical nursing skills and a willingness to learn new skills as required. Demonstrated ongoing responsibility for maintaining own continuing competence through professional development activities. Ability to work shift work. Ability to meet the physical demands of the job. Basic computer skills.

Recent experience in Level 2 postpartum and newborn acute care. Training and experience with Connect Care beneficial. Current IBCLC (International Board-Certified Lactation Consultant) certification an asset. Inter-professional communication experience. Leadership and critical thinking skills. Ability to balance numerous demands and conflicting priorities. Ability to work within a team and contribute to care planning processes.
