Registered Nurse

An exciting opportunity exists for an experienced acute care RN at the Medicine Hat Regional Hospital. The Registered Nurse acute care float will work collaboratively amongst multi-disciplinary teams to provide high quality, patient/family centered care to a variety of patients with complex and diverse care needs. In your role, you will utilize nursing processes, critical thinking, problem solving and decision making, as well as teach, counsel and advocate on behalf of patients and their families.

As a Registered Nurse (RN), you will provide a wide variety of nursing services to patients, families, communities and populations, while taking necessary steps to ensure their safety and well-being. In your role, you will utilize nursing processes, through critical thinking, problem solving and decision making, as well as teach, counsel and advocate on behalf of patients and their families. You will play a leadership role in supporting an integrated and holistic approach to patient care, health promotion and maintenance. You will provide safe, quality patient and family centered care while reflecting the shared vision and values of AHS. PLEASE NOTE: Provisional Permit holders will be paid $39.58 - $54.16 per hour. Upon obtaining a full licence, the rate of pay will be adjusted to the applicable Registered Nurse rate in accordance with UNA Article 25.02(b)(i) or (ii) as applicable.

Completion of an accredited nursing education program. Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the College of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CRNA). Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP) certification. Minimum of 2 years recent (within the last 3 years) adult acute medical/surgical nursing experience is required. Demonstrated ability to work and lead in a team environment. Demonstrated ability to work effectively with patients and families in stressful situations. Strong clinical and assessment skills necessary. Ability to perform basic ECG interpretation, NIH stroke scale and CVA assessment/management required. Must have excellent interpersonal communication, effective time management and organizational skills required to work with the multidisciplinary team. Must be able to work in a fast-paced department that is variable, unpredictable, and has competing priorities. Strong conflict resolution skills are necessary. Demonstrated ability to communicate in a clear and concise manner with all members of the healthcare team and with patients and family members. Ability to lift and turn patients safely utilizing appropriate techniques and equipment (IYM).

Recent Charge Nurse Experience and active participation in discharge planning preferred.
