Registered Nurse – International

In accordance with LOU #7, this competition is to support the hiring of internationally educated nurses and will be restricted to only those applicants who meet the posting requirements and who do not currently reside or have eligibility to work in Canada. Alberta Health Services (AHS) is looking for a Registered Nurse (RN) to join our Acute Medicine and Medical Psychiatry Inpatient Unit (Unit 43) at the Peter Lougheed Centre (PLC) in Calgary! PLC serves Calgary’s growing and diverse population in the city’s north east. It is home to one of the busiest emergency rooms and a growing number of specialty and surgical services. The hospital has one of the best vascular surgery programs and is a training ground for anterior hip replacement surgery and one-day knee replacements for surgeons across Western Canada. The medical/psychiatry service is a unique care model that provides a multi-disciplinary integrated approach to the treatment of patients with concurrent medical and psychiatric illnesses to better address the needs of this population. As a RN on Unit 43 you will have an opportunity to strengthen knowledge and skills while practicing to full scope of practice. You will be required to provide leadership, work well within a multidisciplinary team setting and have the ability to work independently. You will be caring for patients who at times can become agitated, aggressive and unpredictable, you must be able to de-escalate patients and respond appropriately. As a Registered Nurse (RN), you will provide a wide variety of nursing services to patients, families, communities and populations, while taking necessary steps to ensure their safety and well-being. In your role, you will utilize nursing processes, through critical thinking, problem solving and decision making, as well as teach, counsel and advocate on behalf of patients and their families. You will play a leadership role in supporting an integrated and holistic approach to patient care, health promotion and maintenance. You will provide safe, quality patient and family centered care while reflecting the shared vision and values of AHS. PLEASE NOTE: Provisional Permit Holders shall be paid $35.87/hour - $43.82/hour. Upon being entered into the register of Registered Nurses, the rate of pay shall be adjusted to the rate of pay applicable to a Registered Nurse in accordance with AHS/UNA Article 25.02(b)(i) or (ii) as applicable. Completion of an accredited nursing education program. Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the College of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CRNA). Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP). Current clinical experience (within the last 12 months) as a Registered Nurse in at least one of the following departments is required: acute care, emergency, intensive care, operating room, obstetrics, and psychiatry. Minimum of 3 years experience within the last 5 years as a Registered Nurse in more than one of the following departments: acute care, emergency, intensive care, operating room, obstetrics, and psychiatry. A willingness to learn new skills as required. Ability to work shift work and meet the physical demands of the job.

Bachelor’s degree in Nursing. Certification(s) and training in a relevant specialty area. (ENCP, TNCC, ACCN, ACLS). Charge nurse experience. Past leadership training/experience.
