In accordance with LOU #7, this competition is to support the hiring of internationally educated nurses and will be restricted to only those applicants who meet the posting requirements and who do not currently reside or have eligibility to work in Canada. Alberta Health Services (AHS) is looking for a Registered Nurse (RN) to join our Critical Care Program - General Systems Intensive Care Unit (3C3/C4 GSICU) at the University of Alberta (UA) in Edmonton! The GSICU is a Level 1 Trauma Center and Transplant Center for Edmonton, Northern AB, SK, Northern BC, and the Canadian North. RNs within the GSICU provide care to critically ill patients with life threatening or potentially life threatening conditions, typically involving one or more organ system failures, including renal failure. RN’s in the GSICU are trained to provide hemodialysis and/or Continuous Renal Replacement Therapy (CRRT) and cover the Walter McKenzie Center site for Code Blue and Medical Emergency Team (MET). In addition, RN’s from this unit provide support to patients requiring specialized isolation (Ebola) in the Specialized Isolation Unit (SIU). You will be responsible for the assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of patient care. Working as part of the multidisciplinary team, you will collaborate for positive patient outcomes and provide quality care and life support to critically ill patients with serious, life-threatening illnesses. As a Registered Nurse (RN), you will provide a wide variety of nursing services to patients, families, communities and populations, while taking necessary steps to ensure their safety and well-being. In your role, you will utilize nursing processes, through critical thinking, problem solving and decision making, as well as teach, counsel and advocate on behalf of patients and their families. You will play a leadership role in supporting an integrated and holistic approach to patient care, health promotion and maintenance. You will provide safe, quality patient and family centered care while reflecting the shared vision and values of AHS. PLEASE NOTE: Provisional Permit Holders shall be paid $35.87/hour - $43.82/hour. Upon being entered into the register of Registered Nurses, the rate of pay shall be adjusted to the rate of pay applicable to a Registered Nurse in accordance with AHS/UNA Article 25.02(b)(i) or (ii) as applicable. Completion of an accredited nursing education program. Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the College of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CRNA). Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP). If you have not practiced as a Registered Nurse within the last five (5) years, completion of the following free courses is required: CRNA Medication Management - Chapters 1 - 4 (https://connect.nurses.ab.ca/home/%2Flearning-and-development%2Flearning-modules%2F) and the NextGenU Health Assessment Resources Certification (https://courses.nextgenu.org/course/view.php?id=271#section-0)

Current clinical experience (within the last 12 months) as a Registered Nurse in Critical Care at a tertiary level hospital. Minimum of 3 years experience within the last 5 years as a Registered Nurse in more than one of the following departments: acute care, emergency, intensive care, operating room, obstetrics, and psychiatry. A willingness to learn new skills as required. Ability to work shift work and meet the physical demands of the job. Completion of an accredited Critical Care Training program OR 3 years experience within the last 5 years Critical Care experience in a tertiary level hospital. Experience within the last 3 years caring for patients with mechanical ventilation, advanced cardiac monitoring, advanced hemodynamic monitoring, emergency cardiac arrest management, countershock, inotropes, and massive transfusions. All applicants may be required to complete The Orientation Program for Adult Critical Care in Alberta (OPACCA) training or the critical care challenge process. Past leadership training/experience.

Bachelor’s degree in nursing. Certification(s) in a relevant specialty area including: Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS), Advanced Burn Life Support (ABLS), Canadian Nurses Association (CNA), International Trauma Life Support (ITLS), Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS), Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP). Wound Care Experience and/or Certification. Trauma Nurse Core Course (TNCC). Previous OBS/Cardiac/Pediatric experience. Charge nurse experience.
