Description
Working in forensic mental health means stepping into a dynamic intersection of psychiatry, law, and public safety. It’s a field where clinicians support individuals with complex mental health needs who are also involved in the criminal justice system. Whether assessing risk, providing therapeutic interventions, or helping patients navigate recovery within secure environments, professionals in forensic mental health play a vital role in promoting rehabilitation, protecting communities, and advocating for humane, evidence-based care. It’s challenging, deeply impactful work that demands compassion, resilience, and a strong ethical compass. You would be reporting to the Central Service Manager while working on Adult Forensic units onsite (3 Building). This position has transitioned to Recovery Alberta effective September 1, 2024. As a Psychiatric Aide, you will work as a collaborative member of the multi-disciplinary team to meet the personal care needs and comforts of patients in accordance with the patient care plan and facility policies and procedures. You will assist nurses with the provision of routine care to meet patients' hygiene, nutrition, mobility, recreation and safety needs as well as assist with organized activities or programs. In this position, you will observe and report on a patient¿s mood, health, well-being, maintain effective communication with patients and health professionals, assist with the maintenance of a safe environment for patients, staff and visitors as well as assist in the general support of the work area.
Completion of Grade 12. A combination of education and experience satisfactory to the employer will also be considered.
Recent experience in Addictions and Mental Health. Sound observation and strong verbal communication skills. Positive attitude and the ability to work effectively in an Acute Psychiatry setting. Demonstrated critical thinking and problem-solving skills. Ability to adapt quickly to changes in daily schedule and patient needs. Working knowledge of person-centered care principles is important.
Health Care Aide Certification. Working knowledge of the CoACT model of care. Working knowledge of trauma informed care.
