Description
Alberta Health Services is looking for a temporary 4th Class Power Engineer to join our Facilities Maintenance & Engineering Team. As the 4th Class Assistant Engineer, your primary responsibility is the assistance of the 3rd Class Power Engineer for the continuous monitoring and safe operation of our 2nd class power plant. Responsibilities also include the safe operation, monitoring, troubleshooting, and performing minor repairs of equipment such as emergency generators, chillers, cooling towers, heating systems, cooling systems, HVAC units, pumps, compressors, vacuum pumps, fans, motors, etc. The 4th Class Power Engineer reports to the Shift Engineer, department Lead Hand, and Facilities Maintenance & Engineering Manager/Chief Engineer. Other duties will include: Responding to alarms, or phone calls, and carrying out the necessary corrective action during weekends and evenings for all assigned facilities. Assists in the maintenance of all mechanical and life safety supportive systems installed in the hospital complex, including automatic controls. Responds to emergency and high priority situations. Completes preventative/demand maintenance work orders as assigned. Equipment rounds and visual checks, log sheet readings, water tests, making operational adjustments as necessary to flows, temperatures, chemicals, etc. Troubleshoot, diagnose, and identification of failures in a timely manner. Completing Field Level Risk Assessments and Work Permitting required for the associated task or work. Performing other duties as assigned by the Manager(s) and/or Lead Hand. Understanding and implementing departmental procedures. Understanding and implementing Control of Hazardous Energy requirements and procedures. Our 4th Class Power Engineers work a five-week rotating schedule, working 12-hour shifts, alternating between days and nights.
As a Power Engineer 4th Class, you will be responsible for assisting with monitoring, repairs and maintenance of plant operations in accordance with AHS and Alberta Boiler Safety Association (ABSA) standards and practices. You will schedule and check building/power plant equipment systems on a pre-established schedule. In addition, you will operate and maintain the plant in a safe and efficient manner according to ABSA regulations.
Completion of 4th Class Power Engineering Certificate.
Class 5 Driver's License. 4th Class Power Engineering Certificate for Alberta.
Building Management System experience an asset. HVAC system experience an asset. 5 years' experience in a health care facility an asset. 5 years' experience in a power plant setting an asset.
