The Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology is recruiting for a 1.0 FTE position to be filled by a Physician Assistant (PA) at the Peter Lougheed Centre (PLC) to work as part of our Obstetrics and Gynecology service. A completed PA degree is required for eligibility to apply. The Peter Lougheed Centre (PLC) is a community hospital located in Calgary’s North East quadrant and serves a diverse patient population. The PLC has a very busy Labour/Delivery unit and delivers over 6000 babies each year! We also manage a very busy Gynecology service (elective and emergency surgeries). The successful applicant will join a team of supportive and collegial group of Obstetricians and Gynecologists, and be expected to work with Resident Physicians and Nurse Practitioners that are part of the team. The expectation of this position is to work Monday to Friday (8 hour work-day) to support the OB/GYN team and patients admitted to our service. It may include assisting with c-sections on Labour/Delivery or in Gynecology surgeries. This position may also include helping with admitted inpatients or performing Gynecology consults (inpatient and in Emergency Department). This may involve, but is not limited to assessing, creating and communicating care plans for patients related to complications of pregnancy (pregnancy loss, ectopic pregnancy, retained products of conception) or acute gynecologic conditions (abnormal uterine bleeding, pelvic pain/infections, pelvic masses), or postop complications.
Completion of a recognized Physician Assistant Program. Demonstration of active registration as a PA registered with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Alberta. BCLS certification required. Demonstrated skills and competency in women’s health history and physical examination. This includes and ability to learn and perform basic technical procedures in women’s health (including but not limited to speculum exam, foley catheter insertion, bimanual pelvic exam, POCUS). Interest in learning to be surgical assist for c-sections and gynecologic surgeries. Excellent communication skills and understanding of patient centered, trauma-informed and collaborative approach to care. Ability to work effectively in multidisciplinary teams.
As Required.
Experience in Connect Care and acute care hospital settings preferred but not required.
