The Calgary Corridor Department of Emergency Medicine is recruiting for a 1.0 FTE Physician Assistant (PA) position to support the delivery of emergency care. The Calgary Corridor Department of Emergency Medicine provides Emergency care to patients at the 4 Urban Emergency Departments in Calgary, Alberta collectively seeing ~300,000-350,000 patient visits per year. The successful applicant will join a supportive and collegial group of Emergency Physicians and interdisciplinary team members. This is a shift-based position, with expectations to work days, evenings, nights, and weekends to support 24/7 emergency care. This position will involve, but not be limited to: Assessing, creating, and communicating care plans for patients presenting with undifferentiated medical, surgical, and trauma concerns. Performing focused histories, physical examinations, point-of-care investigations, and initiating evidence-based management across all age groups. Supporting acute resuscitation and stabilization in collaboration with the emergency care team. Performing and assisting with procedures aligned with the candidate’s skill set (e.g., suturing, fracture management, airway support, point-of-care ultrasound). Ensuring continuity of care through clear documentation, collaboration with consultants, and arranging appropriate follow-up. Contributing to teaching and supervision of medical students, residents, and other learners rotating through the PLC Emergency Department.
Completion of a recognized Physician Assistant Program. Demonstration of active registration as a PA registered with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Alberta. BCLS, ACLS and PALS certification are required. Experience in emergency care is required. Experience with Epic (Connect Care) and acute care hospital settings is preferred but not required.
Competency in emergency medicine history-taking and physical examination across the age spectrum. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Patient- and family-centered, trauma-informed, and collaborative approach to care. Ability to work effectively within multidisciplinary emergency care teams. Capacity to learn and perform basic emergency procedures (including but not limited to suturing, fracture management, POCUS, airway support, and intravenous access).
