AHS is seeking a skilled and motivated Pharmacy Technician to join the pharmacy team at Alberta Children’s Hospital. You will work to full scope of practice and support safe, efficient, and high-quality patient care in all areas of medication distribution. Responsibilities include coordinating and performing sterile & non-sterile compounding, final checks of medications, inventory, and procurement activities. You will check and dispense patient-specific medication orders prepared by Pharmacy Assistants and other Technicians, prepare and check repackaged medications, and complete Patient BPMHs in a clinical setting. The role also involves mentoring Pharmacy Assistants and Technicians, training new staff, and precepting students while collaborating closely with pharmacists and interdisciplinary healthcare teams. You will adhere to NAPRA and ACP standards, oversee delegated tasks, and contribute to operational activities and quality improvement initiatives. Strong verbal and written English communication skills, professionalism, accountability, and attention to detail are essential. Physical demands include standing, walking, keyboarding, lifting, bending, reaching, pushing, pulling, and kneeling. The role includes handling hazardous medications using appropriate PPE. The ideal candidate thrives in a fast-paced environment, demonstrates reliability, critical thinking, adaptability, and a commitment to confidentiality, accuracy, and teamwork. You must be able to work independently and as part of a team, follow established procedures, and adapt to changing workflows and technology. As a Pharmacy Technician I, you will be responsible for the preparation and distribution of pharmaceutical products. You will receive and triage medication orders, compound and repackage medication and prepare sterile and non-sterile pharmaceutical products.

Completion of a CCAPP-accredited Pharmacy Technician Training Program. Current, provisional, or transferable registration with the Alberta College of Pharmacy (ACP) as a Pharmacy Technician.

Prior hospital experience with a variety of responsibilities including but not limited to checking, sterile compounding, non-sterile compounding and all aspects of drug distribution such as ward stock, and narcotics 2 years+ experience in the last 5 years in pediatrics required. 2 years+ experience in the last 5 years in compounding sterile and non-sterile preparations. Required to compound sterile and non-sterile preparations (including hazardous) and work with arms extended for sustained periods of time. Must be able to handle chemotherapy and hazardous drugs, work offsite at Foothills Medical Centre and participate in on-call shifts. Physical demands of the role include lifting of up to 30 lbs and occasional lifting of up to 50lbs, along with frequent bending. Repetitive wrist and hand movement required. Must be able to withstand long periods of sitting, standing and walking. Must have excellent organizational, problem-solving and decision-making ability. Self-motivated with a strong customer service orientation, and able to demonstrate critical thinking, problem-solving skills, and the ability to work independently as well as collaboratively. Preference given to individuals with recent pediatric and/or oncology experience along with current chemotherapy IV certification status. Experience in a Clinical Deployed Technician role preferred.

2 years+ experience in the last 5 years in all aspects of Chemotherapy; including but not limited to receiving, embedded worksheet setup, recent certification for preparation, checking and medication distribution preferred. Recent ACH experience. Membership in a Pharmacy Technician association (e.g., PTSA, CAPhO, CAPT, CSHP) is preferred. Willow Ambulatory (WAM) experience will be viewed as an asset. Investigational and Special Access Drugs knowledge.
