Are you a passionate and experienced Pharmacy Technician ready to make an impact in healthcare? Alberta Health Services (AHS) is seeking a dedicated professional to join our pharmacy team. In this role, you’ll work to ensure safe, efficient, and high-quality patient care through all aspects of drug distribution. Reporting to the Manager, Medication Quality, Safety and Policy, this position's key responsibilities include advising pharmacy staff on safety strategies related to order entry, selecting and labeling medications, repackaging equipment, compounding, performing final product checks, and hazardous medication handling. You will participate and/or lead provincial committees and projects to achieve these goals and to support quality, safe patient care. Additionally, collaborate with Medication Safety Pharmacists, Medication Safety Nurse, and other healthcare professionals to improve patient safety. The ideal candidate demonstrates strong communication skills, attention to detail, and the ability to thrive in a fast-paced and virtual environment. Professionalism, reliability, critical thinking, and adaptability are essential, along with a commitment to confidentiality, accuracy, and teamwork. Candidates must follow instructions, work independently and collaboratively, and adapt to evolving workflows and technologies. This position is primarily computer-based, and will require the ability to use Microsoft Office Suite, including Teams and SharePoint.
As a Pharmacy Technician I, you will be responsible for the preparation and distribution of pharmaceutical products. You will receive and triage medication orders, compound and repackage medication and prepare sterile and non-sterile pharmaceutical products.
Completion of a CCAPP-accredited Pharmacy Technician Training Program. Current, provisional, or transferable registration with the Alberta College of Pharmacy (ACP) as a Pharmacy Technician.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, including Teams, SharePoint, Word, Excel and Visio. Minimum 5 years of hospital pharmacy practice experience, ideally within large, complex organizations. Experience in safety roles (e.g., Safety Tech) and leadership. Demonstrated ability to prioritize multiple projects and workloads in a dynamic environment. Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Experience in Adobe Captivate. Membership with Pharmacy Technician Society of Alberta, Canadian Association of Pharmacy Technicians, and/or Canadian Society of Health System Pharmacy. Project management expertise. Change management or project management certifications.
