Description
As a Pharmacy Assistant in Correctional Health, you will work in a secure, team-based environment alongside pharmacists, pharmacy technicians, healthcare professionals, correctional centre authorities, and external stakeholders to support medication services for adults and youth in custody. Under the general supervision of a pharmacist or pharmacy technician, you will: Distribute and repackage medications using automated and computerized systems. Repackage and label pharmaceuticals in accordance with established standards and protocols. Maintain accurate records for narcotics and controlled substances. Complete ward stock duties, including restocking, charging/crediting, and monitoring for expired products. Receive, store, and manage pharmacy inventory and supplies according to established quotas and procedures. Transport medications and pharmacy supplies safely between departments. Perform routine cleaning and basic maintenance of pharmacy equipment. Accurately enter data, manage records, and complete filing tasks. Participate in departmental quality improvement and safety initiatives. Assist with the training and orientation of new staff, students, and pharmacy residents. Maintain site-specific performance standards, including completion of mandatory internal certifications. Perform other related duties as assigned. This position requires physical stamina and the ability to stand and walk for extended periods, perform repetitive bending, and lift up to 30 lbs. regularly and up to 50 lbs. occasionally. Work may involve sustained periods of reaching and working with arms extended.
As a Pharmacy Assistant, you will be responsible for the packaging, distributing, shipping medications and the management and replenishment of medication inventory levels under the general supervision of Pharmacists and Pharmacy Technicians.
Completion of Grade 12 or equivalent.
Experience using EPIC Inpatient Willow. Fluency in English (written and verbal), with strong reading comprehension. Strong basic math and computer skills, including accurate keyboarding. Excellent attention to detail, reliability, and accuracy. Demonstrated ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment. Professional, courteous, and discreet, with a strong commitment to confidentiality. Physical ability to meet job demands, including standing and walking over 10,000 steps per shift and lifting up to and over 50 lbs.
Graduate of a recognized Pharmacy Assistant program. Familiarity with unit-dose packaging systems, repackaging equipment, and office software.
