Together We’re Better. Alberta Children's Hospital (ACH) is the largest public hospital for sick children in Alberta. ACH was built with family centered care in mind and prides itself on engaging patients and families on a regular basis through a family centered approach to care. Here at ACH we offer a variety of Pharmacy Inpatient Services include our Oncology Satellite Pharmacy, Day Medicine, Rotary Flames House, and Neonatal Intensive Care Units (NICU) onsite and offsite and at the Foothills Medical Center. You will be responsible for the repackaging, distribution, and wardstock maintenance. Performs routine physical cleaning and maintenance on pharmacy equipment. Completes records and filing associated with all duties. Performs unit-based duties and communicates unit-based issues to other pharmacy staff for resolution. Participates in hospital and/or departmental quality assurance/ improvement activities to ensure standards are maintained. Assists in training and orientation of new employees, students and pharmacy residents. Maintains site-specific standards of performance, including achievement of mandatory internal certifications. As a Pharmacy Assistant, you will be responsible for the packaging, distributing, shipping medications and the management and replenishment of medication inventory levels under the general supervision of Pharmacists and Pharmacy Technicians.
Completion of Grade 12 or equivalent.
Working knowledge of Pharmacy terms and medication names. Graduate of a recognized pharmacy assistant program and/or recent retail or hospital pharmacy experience acceptable to the employer. Experience with Windows-based applications and demonstrated typing skills. Fluency in the English language (both written and verbal). 1 year + experience in the last 5 years in pediatrics preferred. 1 year + Connect Care/Epic computer program experience. Willingness to work with narcotics and/or inventory required. It is a requirement to be able to work at our NICU satellite at Foothills Medical Center (offsite location) It is a requirement to be able to work all shifts including evenings, weekends and STAT holidays. Must be accurate, reliable, precise, cooperative, self-motivated and able to demonstrate effective customer service attitude. Must be able to work both independently and co-operatively in a team environment. Must be committed to continual personal quality improvement and lifelong learning. Must be able to withstand long periods of sitting, standing and walking and must be in good physical condition as some heavy lifting is required. Preference also given to experience with compounding, repackaging, unit dose, wardstock, handling hazardous medications, wearing proper PPE where required, narcotics, inventory management, deliveries, cartfills, and knowledge of pharmaceutical compounding equipment. Recent ACH experience preferred. Preference given to individuals with recent pediatric and/or narcotics and/or inventory management experience. In addition, the successful incumbent will be expected to demonstrate proficiency in the following: Demonstrates excellent communication (written and verbal), attention to detail, time management skills, organizational skills, problem-solving and decision-making ability. Displays professionalism, tact, courtesy, discretion and respects confidentiality.
