Description
The Alberta Children's Hospital is a warm and vibrant workplace, with team members providing service to children & their families in inpatient units & ambulatory clinics. The successful candidate will be working within a team of technicians and clinicians in Orthotics and Seating to provide, repair and maintain orthoses for a wide demographic of patients. They will be involved in the use of a variety of different technologies using many materials and techniques. Maintaining and developing fabricating skills and procedures through continuing education is ongoing. As part of the Orthotics team, an awareness of conditions and measures that may affect the safety of patients, residents, students, employees, volunteers, physicians and visitors is important. As the successful candidate, you will demonstrate the ability to work collaboratively within an interdisciplinary team; will exhibit excellent clinical reasoning & problem-solving skills including analytical thinking & conflict resolution; will be organized in managing a large & complex caseload; will demonstrate initiative & adaptability to meet varying clinical & operational needs; & will demonstrate effective interpersonal and verbal/written communication skills. You will receive guidance, mentoring, & leadership appropriate to your level of experience.
As an Orthotic Technician, you will provide technical support to the Orthotists in the fabrication and repair of orthotic devices.
Completion of an accredited educational program in orthotic and prosthetic techniques including fabrication and repair.
To ensure your skills and qualifications are considered please attach a resume and cover letter with your application. Registration as a Registered Technician RTO(c) with Orthotics Prosthetics Canada (eligibility and intent to register may be considered). Demonstrated ability in the technical skills necessary to fabricate and repair orthotic devices. Able to advise team on fabrication and design options in order to problem solve and obtain optimal design. Demonstrated ability to meet production timelines and multitask, being responsible for several projects at a time. Show evidence of a commitment to continuous education. Demonstrated skill in the safe use of workshop equipment. Ability to safely manage lifting tasks (greater than 50 lbs.).
Experience fabricating an extensive range of orthotic devices for a pediatric population. Able to advise multidisciplinary team on fabrication and design options for pediatric patients in order to problem solve and obtain optimal design.
