As an Orthopaedic Technician (Ortho Tech), you will apply, adjust, and remove casts, splints and traction equipment utilized in the care of orthopaedic patients (clients, residents). You will observe, monitor, report and document changes in the patient's physical, mental and emotional state, while providing safe and effective, quality care. You will play a key role in providing safe, quality patient and family centered care while reflecting the shared vision and values of AHS.

Completion of an accredited Licensed Practical Nurse education program. Active or eligible for registration with the College of Licensed Practical Nurses of Alberta (CLPNA). Completion of an accredited specialty Orthopaedic Technician program. Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP).

Minimum of 2 years’ experience working as an LPN in a related setting such a Primary Health Care. Minimum of 2 years working as an LPN in Urgent Care or Emergency. Strong understanding of health promotion, population health, and the determinants of health theory and practice. Expert in nursing practice, patient education, counseling and planning/ coordinating care, patient health promotion and wellness. Demonstrates proficiency in assessment, treatment and intervention of patients requiring urgent and/or active care. Demonstrates ability to work independently as well as the ability to collaborate within the expectations of a highly complex integrated team. Effective interpersonal and communication skills, cross cultural sensitivity, strong organizational skills.

Ability to manage time and resources, implementing activities to promote cooperation among relevant others, collaboration across disciplines and related activities. Possess a sound understanding of the community and the determinants of health and have working knowledge of Connect Care.
