Edmonton Zone Continuing Care provides services through five main program areas: Home Living, Supportive Living, Facility Living, Transition Services and Palliative Care. We are looking for an Occupational Therapist II - Allied Health Team Lead to join our Facility and Supportive Living (FSL) team. We provide care and support to adults and seniors residing in congregate living settings. FSL is a non-institutional alternative for those who are no longer able to live in their own home, which focuses on health promotion, well-being, independence and maintaining functional abilities. Reporting to the Allied Health Operations Managers, the Team Lead provides day-to-day operational leadership and support to various allied health staff within FSL, and will support the day-to-day planning, development, and delivery of services to clients. The Team Lead acts as a role model and resource to staff for professional development and clinical competence. This position will lead interdisciplinary allied health staff to provide evidence informed services within FSL parameters and in adherence with Alberta Health Services (AHS) and other relevant legislation, standards, guidelines, policies and procedures. They will have a key role in quality improvement initiatives, program development, evaluation and knowledge translation within the program. The Team Lead will also collaborate with discipline-specific Health Educators and Professional Practice Leads (PPLs) to implement supported and leading practices. The Team Lead will consult on complex patient care scenarios and may provide direct clinical services for FSL clients residing anywhere in the Edmonton Zone.
As an Occupational Therapist II, you will be responsible for the coordination of occupational therapy and other allied health clinical services within a program or service area. You will provide supervision of students and team members as assigned. As an Occupational Therapist II, you will be responsible to work both independently and as part of an interdisciplinary team where you will be an integral member, providing leadership to other healthcare professionals. You will be making day-to-day clinical decisions on patient/family needs regarding assessment, intervention, discharge and follow-up. You will make decisions and advise team members on complex clinical cases and provide clinical leadership within the program or service area to ensure safe, efficient and effective client care. You will ensure occupational therapy practice is evidence-based and in alignment with Alberta legislation and regulations, professional standards of practice, code of ethics and AHS policy and guidelines. You will be providing coordination of the day-to-day operations of an assigned service area and monitoring care delivery, identifying service needs and assisting other medical staff with caseload management, completing chart audits and providing follow-up and feedback to staff. You will be participating in program development and operational planning and representing the department on committees or programs. You will be making decisions on staffing level requirements, workflow and caseload priorities in collaboration with managers and other healthcare providers. As assigned, you will carry out the roles of a direct clinical service provider, consultant, educator and/or advocate in your program or service area.
Master's degree in Occupational Therapy from an accredited university program or bachelor's degree in Occupational Therapy from an accredited university program and related experience. Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the Alberta College of Occupational Therapists (ACOT).
Please Note: This position is open to qualified PT and OT candidates. Responsible to maintain active registration with professional regulatory college throughout the duration of employment. Basic Cardiac Life Support - Healthcare Provider (BCLS-HCP) required. Experience using the principles of adult learning to conduct education sessions, in-services and program development implementation and evaluation is required. Interested candidate must be highly motivated and self-directed with the ability to mentor staff in direct clinical skill development, and electronic documentation. The successful candidate must be able to work in different settings and environments (congregate settings, all weather conditions), as well as be able to lift and carry professional bags, weighing approximately 25-30 lbs. Required to bend, pull, lift, and perform various movements and position changes from sitting on floor doing activities with clients, families, and colleagues to working at a computer for extended time periods.
Previous Team Lead experience; demonstrated ability to lead staff, projects, and/or initiatives. Computer knowledge/skills in Connect Care, & Outlook. Strong interpersonal and communication skills; ability to mentor, support professional relationships, lead change, and participate in conflict resolution. AADL Authorizer. Experience working with adult and geriatric population in continuing care environments. Enhanced clinical skills in area of practice/discipline.
