FMC is the Adult Level 1 center serving Southern Alberta, Southeastern British Columbia, and Southwestern Saskatchewan. Our commitment extends beyond our hospital walls as we collaborate closely with our partners and stakeholders within the trauma system, both at a provincial and local level. This collaboration enables us to address identified needs and concerns effectively and ensures a seamless and integrated care system. Reporting to the Manager, Trauma Services and PCU 44 and the Trauma Medical Director, as the Nurse Practitioner- Trauma Services you will focus on the provision of expert clinical care in managing the health needs of individuals experiencing traumatic injury who present to the Level One Trauma Centre in Southern Alberta - The Foothills Medical Centre. In collaboration with the interdisciplinary team, you provide direct patient care using advanced assessment skills, injury and disease pathology knowledge, pharmacology, therapeutic skill, intervention management and referrals. You are expected to provide leadership and participate in program development and evaluation, research, and clinical teaching activities. You will act as an integral member of the Trauma team, working with residents, fellows, and Trauma Team Leaders (TTL), as well as our nurses, allied health professionals, and other departments, such as ICU and ER. You will often be the first point of contact for nursing staff. Due to the number of patients, this is essential for quality care. You will manage a patient list of 20-60 patients, with a high turnover rate. Patients have a variety of injuries and can often be very unwell. Thorough assessment daily is required. As the NP you will assist with procedures, trauma resuscitations, and, potentially, operations if required/interested.

As a Nurse Practitioner (NP), you will provide a full range of comprehensive health services to individuals across their lifespan. You will be responsible for integrating clinical skills associated with nursing and medicine to assess, diagnose, order, and interpret diagnostic tests, prescribe treatment, and perform procedures to manage and meet the health needs of patients. Additionally, you will utilize advanced practice nursing competencies related to Clinical Practice, Leadership and Optimizing Health Systems, Education, and Research to increase care quality, promote appropriate use of health services, and inform and influence healthcare systems. Successful completion of an approved Nurse Practitioner program and a minimum of master's degree. Registration with CRNA on the Nurse Practitioner Registrar including Provisional Graduate Nurse Practitioner licensure. Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP).

Current CNPS (Canadian Nurse Protective Society) PLP (Professional Liability Protection) registration. Current Heart and Stroke Foundation certification in BLS.

A minimum of 3 years of recent emergency/critical care clinical nursing experience preferred. Relevant experience in trauma is preferred. Current Heart and Stroke Foundation certification in ACLS preferred. Current Trauma Nursing Core Course certification preferred. Instructor certification preferred. Recent WISE (Workshop in Simulation Education) or equivalent preferred. Computer literacy skills (i.e. Word, Excel, Netcare, Connect Care/EPIC).
