As a Nurse Clinician (NC) on Labor & Delivery, you are part of the Departmental Leadership Team and play a key role in providing effective clinical and operational leadership in alignment with Departmental, Site, Zone and Provincial policies, processes and goals. This is a multi-faceted role that requires a high level of critical thinking, prioritization, clinical proficiency and professional maturity in order to facilitate both high quality patient/ family care as well as a safe, inclusive and supportive work environment within the department. As the L&D NC you will have both clinical and operational responsibilities including: direct patient care, participation in staff education and mentoring, planning and implementation of new initiatives, interprofessional and departmental collaboration, and ensuring safe, effective and efficient departmental patient flow.

As a Nurse Clinician (NC), you will be responsible for the coordination of an interprofessional team, in the provision of quality patient (client, resident) care in order to meet the operational priorities and requirements within a clinical setting. You will use an integrative leadership approach in assisting, planning, implementing and evaluating care needs, while assuming responsibility for staff assignments, patient flow and clinical resources. You will play a key role in providing safe, quality patient and family centered care while reflecting the shared vision and values of AHS.

Completion of an accredited nursing education program. Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the College of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CRNA). Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP).

Ability to provide direct and full scope patient care in all L&D areas. Current NRP. FHS training within past 2 years. 5 years (within the past 7) of experience in an urban labor & delivery unit with demonstrated excellence in obstetrical clinical practice and proficiency in all areas, including triage, OR, antepartum and L&D. Minimum 2 years L&D NC/charge nurse experience. Demonstrated professional maturity, including systems thinking, emotional intelligence, psychologically safe leadership, strong conflict resolution skills. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Demonstrated organizational, prioritization and critical thinking skills.

CAN Perinatal certification. Participation in MoreOB core team/Quality Council Proficiency with Outlook, Powerpoint, Word, Excel, Visio. Quality improvement, project management or change Management training (e.g. PROSCI, AIW). Leadership or adult education training & experience. Conflict resolution and/or effective communication training.
