The Rural Addiction and Mental Health Community Team is looking for an experienced, skilled, enthusiastic, and dynamic team member to fill the position of a permanent, 0.8FTE Mental Health Therapist for Cardston. This is a generalist Mental Health Therapist position primarily working with adults. The Mental Health Therapist will be responsible for the delivery of a continuum of evidence-based treatment services, including screening, assessment, treatment planning, harm reduction, case management and therapeutic interventions in individual and group settings, for children, youth and adults. The successful candidate will work from a current capable framework and must be able to provide a wide variety of evidence-informed treatment modalities to individuals with mental health and addiction issues. This is an advanced clinical role required to perform the restricted activity of Psychosocial Interventions. The Mental Health Therapist will maintain accurate and appropriate documentation on client files in a timely fashion. The successful candidate will work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team and with allied professionals and community agencies to provide seamless service to clients. As this position is based in a rural setting, the successful candidate must be able to function extremely well both independently and interdependently as they will work within a small office of highly dedicated individuals, as well as within the larger Rural Team. This position reports to the Manager of the Rural Addiction and Mental Health Community Team.

As the Mental Health Therapist, you will be required to use a variety of treatment modalities (individual, family, and group) to persons experiencing significant mental health difficulties. Working both independently and as a member of a collaborative multidisciplinary team, you will provide evidence informed and best practices in crisis intervention, assessment, consultation, referral, case management and treatment.

Master's degree in Psychology; or master's degree in Social Work (clinical specialization) including education in mental health assessment and psychotherapy; or master's or bachelor's degree in Occupational Therapy including training and experience in mental health assessment and provision of psychotherapy; or master's degree in Nursing or Psychiatric Nursing including training and experience in mental health assessment and provision of psychotherapy. Active or eligible for registration with the applicable Alberta regulatory college.

A minimum of one year’s experience providing a full spectrum of mental health therapy services in a concurrent setting. Authorization to do mental health psychosocial intervention is required. Extensive knowledge and familiarity with a strength-based, client-centered approach. Comfortable with computers and electronic health record formats and able to type well enough to complete own clinical documentation.

Extensive knowledge of a variety of therapeutic modalities, including cognitive-behavioral therapy, solution-focused therapy, narrative therapy, trauma recovery treatments, and motivational interviewing is preferred. Suicide Prevention, Risk Assessment and Management. Standard First Aid. Non-Violent Crisis Intervention an asset.
