This Adult Addiction and Mental Health Community Clinic position is based out of the Medicine Hat Provincial Building. The position serves adult clients experiencing mental health challenges within Medicine Hat and surrounding communities. This exciting career opportunity would be ideal for an energetic, passionate, and dynamic clinician looking to provide excellent short-term, goal-oriented mental health therapy. In this position, you will need to integrate evidence-based treatment modalities tailored to clients' needs, employing an inclusive, trauma-informed counselling approach that prioritizes equity and diversity to enhance well-being and mitigate the effects of mental health issues and stigma. This role includes individual work (screening, crisis intervention, assessment, case formulation, direct counselling, consultation, case management, discharge, and referrals), group facilitation, and active collaboration with inter-disciplinary colleagues. The position will be required to work three scheduled shifts a week, based on the department needs, with a mix of two daytime shifts (8:00am-4:30pm) and one later shift during the early evenings up until 7:15 pm. This position may require the incumbent to travel to rural sites to provide in-person counselling services. This position has transitioned to Recovery Alberta effective September 1, 2024. As the Mental Health Therapist, you will be required to use a variety of treatment modalities (individual, family, and group) to persons experiencing significant mental health difficulties. Working both independently and as a member of a collaborative multidisciplinary team, you will provide evidence informed and best practices in crisis intervention, assessment, consultation, referral, case management and treatment.

Master's degree in Psychology; or master's degree in Social Work (clinical specialization) including education in mental health assessment and psychotherapy; or master's or bachelor's degree in Occupational Therapy including training and experience in mental health assessment and provision of psychotherapy; or master's degree in Nursing or Psychiatric Nursing including training and experience in mental health assessment and provision of psychotherapy. Active or eligible for registration with the applicable Alberta regulatory college.

Evidenced strong practical working ability to integrate various evidence-based paradigms into clinical practice (screening, crisis intervention, assessment, case formulation and treatment plan based on at least two evidence-based theories (not frameworks), direct counselling, and consultation). Knowledge of the addiction and mental health resources within Recovery Alberta - South Zone and the populations served, is essential. Candidates should have at least three years of counseling experience in addiction and mental health as a clinician. Current registration with one of the following regulatory colleges is required: ACOT, ACSW, CAP, CLPNA, CRNA, or CRPNA.

Three years’ experience in in the field of Addictions and Mental Health or equivalent services required with five years related services preferred. Non-violent crisis intervention and suicide intervention training.
