This exciting opportunity supports Urgent Mental Health Services for Bow Valley Corridor out of the Canmore General Hospital and Banff Mineral Springs Hospital. The Mental Health Clinician is responsible for providing specialized mental health assessment and consultation services in the context of patients presenting by walk in, referral or via EMS, who require urgent crisis assessment and brief therapy in relation to acute mental health issues. The Mental Health Clinician provides consultation, assessment on referral from the Emergency Department and other units within these Acute Care sites. This position has transitioned to Recovery Alberta effective September 1, 2024. As a Mental Health Clinician, you will work as a member of the multidisciplinary health care team collaborating on the delivery of care for the needs of individuals, families and/or communities. You will be responsible for the intake, clinical interviews and screening of clients with addiction and mental health disorders. You will liaise with a variety of internal and external stakeholders and work collaboratively with other team members as required. You may have the opportunity to participate in program planning, development and to provide supervision to practicum students. This position is open to Registered Nurses, Registered Psychiatric Nurses, Registered Social Workers, Registered Psychologists, and Occupational Therapists.

Completion of one of the following programs: a Master's degree in Psychology, a Bachelor's degree in Social Work incorporating education in mental health assessment, brief counseling, and crisis intervention, a Master's or Bachelor's degree in Occupational Therapy with similar educational components, a Bachelor's degree in Nursing with training and experience in mental health assessment, crisis intervention, and brief counseling, or a Bachelor's degree in Psychiatric Nursing. Active or eligible for registration with the applicable Alberta regulatory college.

3 - 5 years’ experience in the Addiction and Mental Health, acute community, outreach or intake experience within the addiction and mental health field. · Community and Crisis experience. Experience working with multidisciplinary team and community agencies. · Experience working with diverse populations. · Solid knowledge foundation of intervention and treatment modalities relevant to clinical disorders and psychosocial and environmental problems, including single session model. · Strong critical thinking skills, assessment and intervention skills (utilized over the phone). · Ability to manage a wide variety of clinical situations with varying levels of acuity and a heterogeneous client population. · Solid knowledge foundation of Diagnostic and Statistical Manual (DSM) and ability to formulate an accurate provisional diagnosis. Comprehensive knowledge of relevant community resources and legislation. · Strong mental health assessment, crisis management and counselling skills. · High degree of creativity and flexibility as well as the ability to work independently and to engage and work with a diverse client population. Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing; high level of interpersonal skills.

Knowledge of community agencies and programs located in the Bow Valley Corridor. Ability to set priorities and organize time effectively. Ability to work in stressful, demanding and changing conditions. Ability to work collaboratively as part of a multidisciplinary team. Ability to work confidently, independently and within collaborative partnerships. Ability to thoroughly and accurately collect and document information in a timely manner.
