We are seeking a leader committed to patient and family centered care to join our acute care nursing team in sunny Medicine Hat, Alberta. Medicine Hat Regional Hospital is the regional referral center for the area and offers a full suite of patient services. The Manager - Adult Medical/Surgical Inpatient Unit 5E, works in close partnership with the program Director and is accountable for the delivery of high quality, accessible, sustainable, patient and family-focused care for their assigned clinical operations unit(s) and/or program(s). The Manager is accountable for the overall operational leadership for the assigned unit(s) and or program(s). This includes fostering a culture of high quality, collaborative care, and continuous improvement, ensuring the effective deployment of resources and contributing to the development of and implementing operational plans. Cross-functional collaboration with Rural Site Managers, Clinical Operations Directors and Managers and Provincial Programs is a part of this role.

The Manager - Medical/Surgical Inpatient Unit 5E will: Participate in strategic and operational planning. Lead the operations of the clinical program(s) within the area of accountability. Triage and manage most patient/family concerns (first point of contact) and escalates issues accordingly. Be the first point of contact for local physician requests, concerns, issues or other patient care needs on the unit(s) and/or program(s). Advise, coordinate and provide services related to program improvement initiatives (aligned to the assigned program(s) (e.g., process improvement, training) for rural sites within the Southeast Corridor. Monitor, advise, and coordinate patient flow with other clinical operations leaders to ensure patients move through the sites and across programs as effectively as possible. Monitor and advise on provincial initiatives. Monitor assigned budget(s).

A minimum of post-secondary education in a health profession at a baccalaureate level. Registration with an appropriate Alberta Regulated Health Profession. Progressive leadership experience in a healthcare environment in an organization of significant size, complexity, and diversity. Experience in collaborating with physicians and other healthcare professionals.

A demonstrated clear pattern of professional and personal development. Uses strategic thinking, taking into account long term goals assessing options and implications. Demonstrated ability to manage change and create innovative solutions for complex and diverse issues. Ability to manage diverse human, financial and physical resources within a complex environment. Strong organizational skills, client-focused orientation and commitment to providing long-term quality services. Leadership skills, including effective communication skills, demonstrated ability and comfort with decision-making responsibilities, coaching and teaching, and the ability to inspire and build confidence in others. Ability to foster a climate of cooperation among, and build solid relationships with, public agencies, government, boards, committees and other partners.

Graduate degree in a healthcare or related field preferred. Management experience in a Medical/ Surgical or Post-Operative environment. Change Management Certification. Project Management Certification.
