This is a key leadership opportunity to make a meaningful impact on maternal, newborn, and family-centered care as Unit Manager for Unit 62 Labour and Delivery at Rockyview General Hospital. Reporting to the Patient Care Manager for Women’s Health, the Unit Manager plays a vital role within the portfolio, providing leadership and operational oversight across Labour & Delivery, Antepartum, Triage, Obstetrical Operating Rooms, and Obstetrical PACU. This role offers the opportunity to lead highly skilled interdisciplinary teams in a dynamic, complex clinical environment while contributing to strategic, site-based, and zonal initiatives that support excellence in obstetrical care, patient safety, and quality outcomes.

The Unit Manager is responsible and accountable for the day-to-day clinical, operational, and administrative management of Unit 62. The incumbent provides direction, leadership, and oversight to ensure the delivery of safe, high-quality, evidence-based, and patient- and family-centered care aligned with the vision and mission of Alberta Health Services. In collaboration with the Patient Care Manager and leadership team, the Unit Manager participates in: Budget planning and financial stewardship. Human resource management including hiring, performance management, coaching, mentoring, and staff scheduling. Implementing and maintaining professional practice standards. Supporting clinical competencies within the nursing team. Leading and managing change initiatives to improve quality, patient experience, staff engagement, and resource utilization. The Unit Manager plays a key role in communication and collaboration with internal and external stakeholders and actively participates in site-based and zonal obstetrical management committees, including quality assurance and improvement (e.g., MOREOB), education, and resource management committees. This role requires strong leadership presence and the ability to support teams through change in a fast-paced and evolving healthcare environment.

A minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing or a related health discipline. Current active registration and good standing with the College of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CRNA) or applicable professional college. Minimum two (2) years of management or clinical leadership experience, preferably within a large, complex healthcare organization. Demonstrated leadership skills, including decision-making, coaching, teaching, and the ability to inspire confidence and engagement in others. Strong communication, organizational, analytical, planning, and influential skills. Demonstrated ability to manage change and establish effective working relationships with internal and external stakeholders. Strong commitment to patient- and family-centered care, quality improvement, and service excellence. Evidence of a clear and ongoing pattern of professional and personal development.

Demonstrated experience in human, financial, and resource management. Rotation and staff scheduling experience. Proven ability to manage conflict and support staff through complex and sensitive situations. Experience leading teams through change, including familiarity with formal change management processes. Ability to work effectively within a unionized environment and multidisciplinary team structure.

Previous experience within Women’s Health, Obstetrics, or a related specialty. Experience participating in or leading quality assurance and improvement initiatives (e.g., MOREOB).
