As a Maintenance Worker IV, you will perform a variety of highly skilled and complex maintenance and repair work requiring considerable initiative and judgment in determining the appropriate work methods consistent with standards, regulations and procedures. You will utilize your supervisory and/or maintenance skills and experience to perform preventative maintenance and repair duties on specialized equipment and building control systems, and to provide leadership and direction to other maintenance staff in order to meet operational requirements. In addition, you will perform specialized machine repairs, as well as the maintenance and monitoring of systems and equipment. You may be responsible to resolve escalated operational issues; act as a delegate for the Manager on operational issues; participate in the recruitment and selection of new staff; assisting the design and implementation of preventative maintenance programs; estimate project costs; and liaise with outside agencies and contractors.
Completion of post-secondary education in a related field and/or technical certification in a related field required or 4th Class Power Engineer Certificate as per ABSA kW rating guidelines where boiler support is necessary.
A strong working knowledge of mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and HVAC systems, as well as experience with computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS)/ building management systems (BMS). The ability to read and interpret blueprints, technical drawings, and equipment manuals is essential for effective troubleshooting and repairs. Excellent problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work independently or as part of a multidisciplinary team are critical in this complex healthcare environment. A strong commitment to safety protocols, infection prevention, and compliance with regulatory standards is also required, given the critical nature of the facility and patient care operations. Effective communication skills, time management, and a customer-service-oriented mindset ensure successful interactions with clinical staff, patients, contractors, and other stakeholders. Flexibility to respond to urgent maintenance issues.
2-3 years of facilities maintenance and engineering experience within a healthcare or hospital environment. Preference given to Distech control & BMS experience.
