The Stollery Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) located at the Sturgeon Community Hospital (SCH) is an 8 bed level 2 NICU. The NICU supports the Labour and Delivery (Unit 25) at the SCH as well as accepts babies from the other NICUs in the Edmonton Zone. The program utilizes a Family Centered Care philosophy within an interdisciplinary team model. The LPN demonstrates competency in delivering safe, effective and efficient care for the level 2 NICU patients. The successful LPN candidate assesses, plans, implements and evaluates care for patients in collaboration with the interdisciplinary healthcare team members following hospital/provincial policies and nursing care standards. The LPN is able to function at full scope of practice as defined by the College of Licensed Practical Nurses of Alberta. The successful candidate without recent NICU experience will be required to successfully complete the educational opportunity through the Edmonton Neonatal NICU Education Opportunity: 2.5-week classes followed by preceptorship and mentorship. The incumbent will be trained to have a thorough understanding of the care of the level 2 neonatal patients before working independently at the Stollery NICU at the Sturgeon Community Hospital site.

As a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN), you are part of an interprofessional health care team, utilizing nursing processes, critical thinking, problem solving, and decision making skills. You will be guided by your education, experience, and demonstrated skill level, in alignment with applicable legislation, standards of practice, policies, and procedures. You will play a key role in providing safe, high quality, patient and family centred care while reflecting the shared vision and values of the organization.

Completion of an accredited practical nurse education program. Active or eligible for registration and a practice permit as a Licensed Practical Nurse with the College of LPNs and HCAs of Alberta (CLHA). Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP).

Experience working to the full scope of LPN practice - including medication administration (including IV), advanced physical assessment competency required.

Current/active Neonatal Resuscitation Program Certification is preferred. Current NICU experience preferred.
