Under the supervision of the Clinical Nurse Educator and GI Managers, the LPN provides quality and collaborative patient and family centred care within the Gastroenterology, Hepatology and Endoscopy Department in the GI/Hepatology Clinic (Area 2 UCMC) at Foothills Medical Centre. The LPN is an integral member of the GI/HEP clinic team. LPNs are the primary care provider to ambulatory patients; primary responsibilities include: rooming, performing patient assessments, supporting with procedures such as sigmoidoscopy and thin scope endoscopy, and provision of post-procedure patient care and teaching. To fully support Gastroenterology services, the successful candidate may be cross trained to also work in Endoscopy. Shifts are 7.75 hours long with current hours of operation Monday to Friday, 0730-1700 hours. However, these hours may change to meet operational requirements.

As a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN), you are part of an interprofessional health care team, utilizing nursing processes, critical thinking, problem solving, and decision making skills. You will be guided by your education, experience, and demonstrated skill level, in alignment with applicable legislation, standards of practice, policies, and procedures. You will play a key role in providing safe, high quality, patient and family centred care while reflecting the shared vision and values of the organization.

Completion of an accredited practical nurse education program. Active or eligible for registration and a practice permit as a Licensed Practical Nurse with the College of LPNs and HCAs of Alberta (CLHA). Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP).

Previous 2 years' experience in an acute care setting required. Min one year experience in ambulatory/outpatient setting required. Previous experience with Gastroenterology and/or Hepatology patients required. Ability to function independently and within a fast-paced team environment required. Professional, respectful and caring approach with solid work ethic required. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills required. Ability to communicate verbally and written in English required. Effective time management and organizational skills required. Proven ability to collaborate to promote quality teamwork required. Ability to promote quality patient and family-centred care required. Ability to adapt to change and be flexible with an approach to daily duties required. Intermediate computer skills required

Experience with endoscopic procedure preferred, Experience recovering patients from sedation preferred, certification and experience with IV therapy preferred, Familiarity with connect care and basic Outlook applications is preferred.
