Description
Located at the LHHW, responsible for working with gynecology, oncology, and postpartum patients, and performing a variety of nursing duties and administering safe and effective nursing care according to hospital policies and nursing care standards. The incumbent will care for a variety of patients including day surgery, acute gynecology/oncology, postpartum mothers, and patients undergoing genetic terminations of pregnancy. A thorough understanding of gynecology, oncology or postpartum is an asset. The incumbent must demonstrate a professional attitude while working collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team and consider the Essential Habits as set forth by the Royal Alex Way in daily interactions with colleagues, patients, and visitors. Orientation will be established based on experience.
As a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN), you are part of an interprofessional health care team, utilizing nursing processes, critical thinking, problem solving, and decision making skills. You will be guided by your education, experience, and demonstrated skill level, in alignment with applicable legislation, standards of practice, policies, and procedures. You will play a key role in providing safe, high quality, patient and family centred care while reflecting the shared vision and values of the organization.
Completion of an accredited practical nurse education program. Active, or eligible for, registration and a practice permit as a Licensed Practical Nurse with the College of Licensed Practical Nurses and Health Care Aides of Alberta (CLHA). Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP).
NRP certification, recent experience in Women's Health, successful completion and passing of medication math examination at time of interview. This position requires the ability to meet the physical demands associated with nursing duties in an acute hospital unit setting. These include but are not limited to: Frequent pushing and pulling of equipment or patients. Prolonged periods of standing and walking throughout the shift. Regular bending, kneeling, twisting and reaching. Ability to lift, move, or assist patients and equipment weighing up to 40-50 pounds. Ability to respond quickly and effectively in emergency situations.
Recent experience in an acute care setting - maternal/child health preferred. Experience providing acute gynecological surgery or medical care preferred. Experience providing postpartum care and experience with breastfeeding teaching preferred.
