Description
Unit 29 is a 32-bed in-patient unit that covers the following surgical focuses General surgery, Colorectal, Upper GI, Gynecology, and Breast-hernia-thyroid surgery. In collaboration with the multidisciplinary health care team, the Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) provides a professional, caring and comprehensive approach to the surgical and medical patient. The LPN provides leadership in nursing assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of care for patients and families for the purpose of promoting, maintaining or restoring health, illness and safety prevention. This unit uses the CoAct collaborative model of care.
As a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN), you are part of an interprofessional health care team, utilizing nursing processes, critical thinking, problem solving, and decision making skills. You will be guided by your education, experience, and demonstrated skill level, in alignment with applicable legislation, standards of practice, policies, and procedures. You will play a key role in providing safe, high quality, patient and family centred care while reflecting the shared vision and values of the organization.
Completion of an accredited practical nurse education program. Active, or eligible for, registration and a practice permit as a Licensed Practical Nurse with the College of Licensed Practical Nurses and Health Care Aides of Alberta (CLHA). Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP).
Minimum 2 years surgical nursing experience within the last 3 years required. To ensure your skills and qualifications are considered, please attach a resume and cover letter with your application. In addition, the incumbent will be expected to demonstrate proficiency in the following areas: Strong patient teaching skills. Ability to be self-directed and exercises independent decision making, nursing judgment and critical thinking skills. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to effectively maintain collaborative working relationships with members of the multidisciplinary team. Excellent time management and prioritization of skills, with a demonstrated ability to function effectively within a dynamic environment. Demonstrated problem solving, critical thinking, and conflict resolution skills. Actively integrates patient and family centered care principles within own nursing practice. Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Understanding CoAct and collaborative care in the acute care setting. Compliance with the AHS Hand Hygiene policies.
Experience in the following surgical areas is preferred: General surgery, Colorectal, Upper GI, Gynecology, and Breast-hernia-thyroid surgery. Nurses with a final focus on Unit 29, will be given consideration.
