Working under the supervision of Medical Leadership and Department Managers, the Registered Nurse position is responsible for the coordination and facilitation of appropriate triage for incoming Gastroenterology (GI) referrals according to current Triage protocols and provincial pathways. This is an opportunity for a Registered Nurse to join our team of nurses, doctors, and clerks to process referrals and allocate priority quickly, ensuring all patients are triaged appropriately.

As a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN), you are part of an interprofessional health care team, utilizing nursing processes, critical thinking, problem solving, and decision making skills. You will be guided by your education, experience, and demonstrated skill level, in alignment with applicable legislation, standards of practice, policies, and procedures. You will play a key role in providing safe, high quality, patient and family centred care while reflecting the shared vision and values of the organization.

Completion of an accredited practical nurse education program. Active, or eligible for, registration and a practice permit as a Licensed Practical Nurse with the College of Licensed Practical Nurses and Health Care Aides of Alberta (CLHA). Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP).

Minimum of 5 years’ related experience with a variety of surgical service specialties/procedures and/or acute nursing required. Advanced knowledge of gastroenterology diseases, disorders, procedures and treatment protocols required. Knowledge and skill with computers including Microsoft Outlook, Excel, Word, SharePoint as well as experience with Alberta Net Care and Connect Care are required. Demonstrated telephone assessment and triage experience skills required. Ability to sit and work at a computer for extended periods of time. Demonstrated strong interpersonal skills and the ability to effectively liaise with various healthcare professionals and patients. Excellent communication skills. Demonstrated organizational skills with attention to detail required. Proven leadership skills required. Strong decision making and clinical assessment skills required. Exceptional team player with the ability to function and adapt in a fast paced, rapidly changing environment required. Able to work independently and demonstrate time management skills. Demonstrated ability to embrace and commit to continuous learning required.

Current ambulatory/outpatient clinic experience preferred. Knowledge of Gastroenterology Patient Care Pathways. Please Note: A resume must accompany your application and only applicants considered for an interview will be contacted.
